Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts

The 'Adams Project' is still alive, it is just going through all of the trials and tribulations of such a huge undertaking (without the benefit of really deep pockets) so they will be expensive (+/- $5k) and slow to market. Last that I heard an iron block will also be available. Please elaborate if...

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts

I find it interesting that the early Chrysler Hemi doesn't get more aftermarket attention. There has never been another engine that I can think of that looks so good in an open bay car. It's got to be the coolest looking engine in the galaxy! Look at the Chevy 409, an "Odd-Ball" engine (i...

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts

It's getting harder to work on these things every day. Welded strokers have gone up to the price SCAT and Eagle are selling new forged cranks for (for almost every engine but the 331, 354 ro 392 that is) and no one like myself will spend over 2K on a crank. Something's gotta give. I wonder who's go...

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts

I know this is an older post, but here are a few comments: 1) Stroking Original 392 Cranks: This was very commonplace back in the day - with guys like 'Reath Automotive' in Long Beach, CA being one of the well known names. In addition to welding up the cranks for stroking, they also added center cou...

God Bless the Early Chrysler Hemi . . . and folks like this that keep it front, center and making HP! Can't wait to fire up my blown 392!

Re: Engine Masters Challenge early hemi

These guys tried just about every manifold/carb combination known to man . . . been working on it for the last year. TR Waters sent me some pictures of their different combos . . . including custom sheet metal intakes with dual fours. What I don't know is if you're allowed to run sheet-metal intakes...

Re: Engine Masters Challenge early hemi

Way cool! Why did you guys decide to run Webers versus a really nice 4-barrel setup (assuming there is a manifold that would be good enough)? I love the look of Webers, but would think a more traditional carb setup would be easier to tune. Also, did RAS make your rocker arms? I'm running RAS rockers...

Re: Donovan Aluminum heads in a streetable car

Yes - you'll see tubes like this in many heads - especially ones like this where they had such huge damn intake ports and there was no easy way to get the pushrods to the rockers without this technique. Both sets of my 417 heads have steel tubes - they pretty much go from the bottom to top of the po...

Re: Donovan Aluminum heads in a streetable car

Thanks Dale, you were very informative. Ye, I've never had a pair of Donovan 417 heads in my grasps till now. I just got them & they flow even more than I imagined. The "earlier"combustion chambers are also huge (as mentioned ) These probably wouldn't work on even a large cube normall...

Re: Deck Clearance and other Qs?

If I was buying pistons, I'd either go with Ross (for unblown) or Venolia for blown - forged in either case. I'm using Venolia in mine (blown) - gave them the exact compression height, valve pockets, etc.. I'm running Oliver billet 6.86 rods (426), with the big pins - narrowed for the 92 . . . with ...

Re: Donovan Aluminum heads in a streetable car

Are you talking about the 417 Donovan heads? If so, then hopefully you know all the things that are different between those heads and regular 392's. Donovan made quite a few different versions - mainly because they were primarily top-fuel heads and people wanted to try all sorts of different port si...

392 Rods and Bearings

Hmmm: The rod journal size of a 392 is the same a later chrysler products, so you have quite a few options - especially if you're going to have custom forged pistons made. You can run the 440 6-pack rod (just bought a used set for $90 or so) - they are about .200 short, you can run the 426 Hemi rod ...

392 Cranks and Rods - Blown Motor

1) Application: Street blown 392 - max boost 8 - 10 lbs. a) Crank: How strong is a stock 392 crank? Mine is STD/STD. I'm planning on putting 4-bolt mains on the center 3 and running different rods. Will the stock forging take much abuse, or must I bite the bullet and go to a billet crank? I don't wa...

392 Hemi Lower End Strength -- Recommendations?

Hi Gang: I finally picked up my first 392 Hemi -- complete engine out of a 57 Chrysler. Pulled the heads last weekend and everything looks great! (Kind of like XMAS . . . you guys know how it is!). The bores are standard, no water down the cylinders, heads look good, etc.. The block is an A-1 castin...

426 Rods

I saw an add on eBay for some 426 rods that were 7.06 length - said they were a standard part number from Mopar. Thanks for all the help guys -- will get Tex's book, as he is typically a decent writer. Will probably go ahead and run the 392 heads, unless I decide to "take the plunge" and p...

392 Hemi - Can you use 426 rods

Thanks a bunch -- going to pickup my engine next weekend . . . hopefully it is a good one! Do you know if you can run 426 rods -- the NASCAR 7.06" versions on a 392.

392 Hemi -- Heads and Flow

Hi Gang: I'm new to Hemis, but have lots of experience with other engines. Just bought a complete 392 (haven't opened it up yet) and am planning on building it as a blown motor for my 40 Merc. I've heard many say that the 392 heads don't flow as well as 331 or 354 heads, but is this anything to pond...
