Aluminum Desoto heads

Is there anyone out their who is interested in Aluminum heads for a Desoto. I have been thinking about it for a while. I have sketches of the A925 DOHC Chrysler hemi which I want to scale down for the Desoto. I have a foundry that will work with me, a friend whoworks on a 4 axis CNC. I need someone ...

hemi magneto

I am building a high deck Dodge Red Ram hemi. I will be converting it to EFI with coil-on-plug ignition. The hemi spark plug tubes are large enough to fit a Ford COP coil. I do not need a distributer but would like to maintain the appearance of a magneto. Does anyone have a non-fuctional magneto tha...

315 Dodge Industrial Hemi

I just bought a Dodge hemi sight unseen. I was told it was a 315 industrial hemi. The block casting # is 1739429 and the head #1628129. According to Ron Cerindono's book the block number is for a 325. The head number is not listed but if I assume the seller misread the 8 as a 6 then it is listed as ...

Dodge 6-pack intake on Desoto

As Bob Walker and Hot Heads are still selling new Dodge short deck 6 pack Offenhauser intakes I was wondering how they would work on my 291 Desoto. I have spacer blocks already purchased for an EFI conversion. To my surprise they seem to be a perfect fit. I can't help but think that the angle of the...

When using individual runners the issue of the vacuum is a tricky one. I will bore a hole connecting the two runners of each adaptor and will run all four vacuum lines to a common plenum. This will be used for idle bleed and for the MAP sensor

I have a little more sanding to do on the model which I will be using to have sand casted. I have some other parts I need sand casted so I figure in the next month or so I will go to the foundry. I need to have four made for myself and I figured I would have another 4 made to show around. I havn't h...

Desoto intake

There have be so many failed attemps and dicouraging posts reguarding Desoto intakes that I hesitate to even mention the subject. I am in the midst of making an aluminum adapter to mount a weber or DelOrto carb to a short or tall deck Desoto. Obviously it will take 4 adapters and 4 carburettors per ...

forged pistons for 291

At $800 forged Ross pistons are a little pricey. Has anyone tried using pistons from another make motor that are about 40% cheaper. The 265 Chevy motor had about the same bore as did an AMC motor. Anyone ever tried that. Oh yeah I am shooting for a flat top 8:1 compression ration.

I appreciate the info on the heads. I have a set of tall deck heads. I will use the smaller exhaust valves. I saw a web site were a guy put Pontiac valves in with hardened seats. Any info on that?

Thanks for that info. Seems to me for what I want to achieve I would save about $2,000 if I just cleaned up the stock crank, kept the stock rods and bought Ross 8:1 forged pistons. With the money I saved I could put that into a twin turbo set-up. I know my Tremac T-45 and Supercoupe IRS couldn't han...

I have a local machine shop that has an excellent reputation for both cost and quality. While admittedly they do not see many early hemis. I was wondering what most people would pay to have a crank welded up then offset ground to 1/4" versus the cost of a high deck core crank and having it turn...

Realisticly, I doubt I could supercharge the motor if I wanted as I do not have hood clearance for a Rootes type blower and a belt driven Paxton ecetra would be a logistical nightmare with power steering and an A/C compressor.

I am building my car as a dedicated street motor. I can't fit tires larger than 235/60-15 on the car so my feeling is that anything more than 450 HP is just for bragging it is wasted HP. I totally agree with the advice that you can't build a motor to run well at boost and non-boost. I guess I was be...

Are you saying that I would do better to weld up and offset grind the original 291 crank than to cut done the tall deck crank?

stroker crank

If I stroke my 291 I can get about 350 HP from about 350 cubic inches. However if I later decide to add a power adder such as a turbo or blower will I still have a reliable motor at 400 HP or 450 HP? or does the small overlap angle pose a problem? Would I be better off keeping the stock stroke and j...

has anyone made carbon fiber parts for a desoto hemi? How much weight do you think could be saved by making the valve covers, timing chain cover, oil pain and valley pan out of carbon fiber? Is there any market for these if someone (me) makes them?

yeah I had seen the Hillborn EFI set-up and I think it looks great. I didn't like the price very much though. I think I will have my Weber set-up finished for less than $2,000. I will use a megasquirt ECU which may take a bit of learning but is a much better ECU. Also, why not put the injectors over...

Have you seen the Liberty Tech papers or Panic Papers on the internet? They list quite a bit of information on the Desoto. They also have several pages on modifying your motor. I am unsure but I believe the 276 has smaller valves and ports than the 291. You don't want to use the 291 heads. Use the t...

I am planning to put a manual shift transmission behind my Desoto hemi. I noticed the crank was not machined for a pilot bearing. Since I have the crank out being machined should I have it machined to install a pilot bearing or is there some other way arround this.?

Sounds like you have decided to squeeze every possible drop of HP out of that motor. I am afraid that 13.8:1 CR is just a wee bit too radical for my motor. This is going to be something that I want to drive arround on pump gas. Appreciate the input though.

I can see that this problem of a good inexpensive intake for a Desoto is not going away any time soon. So, I just bought a set of conversion plates to convert my intake to electronic fuel injection. stroking a 291

I am buildin a 291 and want to try to get a little more displacement while still keeping costs down. I have already come to the realization that if I want to bump the compression to anything acceptable I will have to spend about $750 for forged pistons versus $300 for cast. I figure if I overbore it...
