Hot Heads lifters
Has anyone purchased hydraulic lifters from Hot Heads? If so, how are they? I have some sitting here and they are unmarked. I'm tempted to send them back for fear they are of questionable quality or Chinese made. They told me they were made by "Enginetech" but when calling "Enginetech...

Thanks guys! I grabbed a starter from a 55 Desoto. Looks like it's going to work just fine.

51-53 Chrysler 331 starters. Interchange?
51 to 53 Chrysler Hemis (extended bell) seem to use a different starter than the later early model hemis. I was told all 49 and 50 Chrysler starters as well as 51 to 54 Desoto Starters will work too. Are there any others? Not the easiest to find one of these starters in good working condition. Anyon...

Re: 331 "W" Block limits
Just an update... The reason I've been asking about this is because I've had the fear since day one that this block might be bored over entirely too much. My fears are a reality. The block was bored to 4.040" from a stock 331 bore (3.8125, I think that is). I don't know why someone would do thi...

Re: 331 "W" Block limits
Okay... here's the results of the sonic check mentioned above. I'm not sure which cylinder is #1, but I'm going to assume that it's the top left pictorial. Thanks for the scan! Looks like the #2 hole was the worst of all of them. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk218/scootermcrad2/scan0001.jpg

Re: 331 "W" Block limits
Buddy... Did you find out what your limits are on that W block, per chance? Please let us know. I also have the slotted push rod pass-thrus, but my motor is definitely listed as a truck motor. Interesting... (this is after pulling heads when I bought it) http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b394/scoote...

Re: 331 "W" Block limits
Don't know what the "W" stands for but I have a '57 354 truck engine that also has the same "W" on the block.I have heard of some replacement blocks that were good for 331's and 354's.If a replacement block was used for a 331 it would have very thick walls.Someone told me once h...

Re: 331 "W" Block limits
Anyone happen to know if the "W" stands for Windsor, by chance? Someone told me that today.
Can't believe I haven't heard more on these particular blocks.

Re: Starter won't seat on HH adapter??!
I forgot to update this...
Indeed the starter was hitting the inside of the bellhousing by quite a bit. Problem was resolved using a Lakewood bellhousing. 1/4" thick stamped steel. Start fits perfect with MORE than enough clearance.

Re: 331 "W" Block limits
The only way you're really going to know is to get it sonic checked. That will tell you just how much metal you've got to go before it either needs sleeving, or you've got a very heavy coffee table .... Have you measured your deck height from the crank centerline ? If you don't have Tex Smith's/Ron...

Re: 331 "W" Block limits
@ least on 331s a "W", between the head & valley cover, is simply the code of the foundry(1 of 3) that cast the blocks. 4.00 is max over bore for 354s, car or truck, has far as I've ever heard. Yeah, this "W" is like an inch or larger and is between the head and the oil pan....

Re: 331 "W" Block limits
Okay, let me ask a different question. What's the maximum over-bore for a 354 passenger car block (again, assuming good sonic check)?
So nobody knows anything specifically about the "W" blocks?

331 "W" Block limits
I'm guessing I won't get a big response from this, but I figured I would give it a shot... I have a 1956 331 Chrysler Hemi (based on the 331 Truck block platform) that has '56 354 passenger car heads mounted to it. It's a "W" block, which apparently was a 354 casting and was only bored to ...

Re: Starter won't seat on HH adapter??!
Scooter, I have nothing to offer regarding the starter issue, but was wondering if you ever got any answers about your pulleys. Kerry, over on the HAMB, has a 354 in his car, with an SBC (not BBC) water pump on it. He made his own adapters, said that 2 of the SBC pump holes lined up. He might have ...

Re: Starter won't seat on HH adapter??!
I am using the later stock style starter. Yes, it's bulky, but I tripple confimed that this starter would work before I went down this road because I wanted something I could replace on the road with a common starter, if needed. I called and talked to Bob yesterday and said they had never heard of s...

Starter won't seat on HH adapter??!
Okay, here's what I have... 331 short bell motor with HH transmission adapter for manual GM applications that locates the starter on the passenger/right side of the engine. Stock chevy bell housing. Standard late model Mopar starter (63 to mid-80's, or whatever). The problem I have is getting the st...

Re: Stock dual point ignition and wires
New plan. I'm going to pick up an ealy LA style points distributor and run that. NAPA has remanned units for $50 (with core), I have a decent new coil already and for that matter I have wires, just want to make up something else for appearance sake (the ones I have are new but REALLY ugly!). I can r...

Re: Stock dual point ignition and wires
Looks like the HHH distributor kit is a reasonable deal since it includes everything. I see JEGS and Summit both sell the same distributor for around $212 then I would have to add HHH's adapters. By the time of paid shipping/handling from both places I haven't saved any money and I might as well jus...

Re: Stock dual point ignition and wires
I just made a set for a "Cackle Fest" motor I'm doing. On the advice of Tom Cirello I used PACKARD 440 wires (solid). Terminals, plug and cap, from NAPA. Insulators I had in stock (Standard Motor Parts SPP68) but might still be available if a good NAPA store will cross reference. I used t...

Re: Stock dual point ignition and wires
Picked up the common rebuild stuff (points, condensor, etc.) from NAPA yesterday. All set with the general stuff. How about rebuilding this old distributor? Places to look for rebuild tips and or the process? Never torn apart one of these. How about those wires? They look like this, are 7mm and copp...

Stock dual point ignition and wires
Well, I guess I'm on a roll tonight. More questions for you guys that I didn't find answers to doing a general search. I've got a 331 Chrysler Hemi that's basically stock spec with the exception of the overly LARGE pistons that were jammed in it and the water pump conversion. I'm planning on running...
