Re: 331 HEMI BUILD
There's more stuff available for the Chryslers than Desoto or Dodge. But sometimes the smaller dimensions of the Desoto/Dodge may make a meaningful difference depending on the car.

Re: project stalled
It goes slow. Have got the short block done, and the headwork done. Looking around now for an A727 and various rear end parts and front disc conversion. The heads were a disappointment. The basket case motor came with the heads already done up with big valves(BBC). Trouble was and I didn't know it e...

go 060 only if you have to. if you ever need to redo the cylinders down the road, you won't have many options.

Re: Day Dreaming About Induction....
On a model A I think multi carbs would look great, 2x4 or 3x2 probably being more attainable $ wise. But a single 4bbl would give you the chance to fab an air cleaner without going nuts... do something very different looking perhaps. If you're planning on a finned valley cover some manifolds show it...

Re: Hello all, new here, got a question
Excuse a numbnuts newbie question but...if the cam was wiped, wouldn't it be good procedure to dismantle and reclean every component in the motor? You know since that metal went somewhere? Or did they do that and it was not mentioned? Also, I'm looking at the top pic of the two lifters. the shapes o...

In the pic, that one rocker off to the right, by itself...looks to me like its slanted the other way compared to the asembled set. Am I seeing things? Obviously its diff for a reason, what would that be?

Re: Adjustable rocker
Why not price out all the parts and machining you need for a basic but quality build. See if the extra expense is in the budget. At your power target I think the gain is only convenience. How often are you going to adjust the valves on a cruiser anyway? My 354 had solids with adj pushrods. After bre...

Re: Lets talk trannys
For example my car is a 66Dart and I'm using a smallblock 727, mostly because I figure it'll fit with less hassle since darts had torqueflites as an option. In some cases all that's needed is a hafty hammer to roll back the tunnel lip. I've read the OD trans is longer so the rear mounts would have t...

Re: Lets talk trannys
How much extra work is involved with the 700r4? Will it fit your chassis without being more trouble than its worth? If you go overdrive it might be good to pick your cam so it runs nice at cruising rpms, which means you need to plan your gearing and tire size.

Re: Brake down or schematic for 1956 354
I think I have a fuelpump eccentric somewhere in my unused parts collection. Its for a 392, if they are interchangable (experts could weigh in on that) you can have it if you don't find yours. Its basically a cup shape with a keyway slot. Also have an oilpump and centersump pickup, again not sure if...

Re: 354 Hemi build
Yeah the guides are pressed so your shop will have to do that. You have a choice of iron or bronze guides. I went with my shop's recommendation of iron as its longer lasting and since its a street machine longevity trumps any minor gains from bronze. They way he explained it was the reason to go to ...

Just try to get a good compressor. I made the mistake of buying a Craftsman. POS. The jaws that grab the retainer bent sideways and there's not enough throw to the handle. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00999887000P?prdNo=5&blockNo=5&blockType=G5 Here's what I bought. Its billed as...

Oil pickup repair
I tried to post this under tips and tricks but it wouldn't let me. One of the tabs broke on the bar that goes across the stock pickup screen. A simple fix but since I've never seen such a repair online I thought it might be worthwhile to post it anyway. I used a laser welder but it could be done by ...

Yeah well I still have the big valve heads so maybe someday, or else they will help finance the project. If anyone recalls, I mentioned that I couldn't be guaranteed that new rockers or custom valves would definitely solve my problem, as this fella on ebay experience (I hadn't even thought about the...

windage tray, oil pan Qs
Does it make any real difference if you mount the tray closer to or further from the crank? I'm using a Milodon SB Mopar tray. How much clearance should be below a stock oil pickup? I had to beat the sump to get some clearance back because it had been squashed at some point, so I don't really have a...
