Re: Early Hemi Identification
Well, according to Leo's book, the VT350 shows as a 331. But it could possibly be a poly, or a hemi, and the year I'm not sure of. Post some pictures so we can get a better look at it.

Late 1954 to early 1955 Desoto heads. The casting number is 1613608 (your image is upside down)
Straight from Leo's book...
Value? Haven't a clue, but I'm sure others here will chime in.

Re: 392 Hemi maximum safe overbore- cylinder wall thickness
I don't understand why you need to remove the cam bearings to check if the cam will fit. That makes no sense to me. A good dial bore gauge will tell you the size, and how out-of-round a hole is within 0.0001" in just a few seconds. Also, if your machinist is machining a block for sleeves that h...

I wonder if they would invest in a company that manufactures guillotines!

Craig, I'm in Fort Collins, Colorado. I too had the same problem finding a plate in my area. I am betting there's one in Denver somewhere... Here are some shops in Michigan that are supposed to be experienced with the early Hemi: * Thomson Automotive Redford, Mi (313-538-0044) * Dowker engines Charl...

Re: Roll Your Own Hemi Torque/Hone Plate
Hi Craig!
I'm super embarrassed to admit I still haven't finished the plate yet. One of the million or so projects I'm working on at the moment.
My intentions where to loan it out to folks in the area. I don't think shipping it would be practical because of the extreme weight.
Where do you live?

I find it interesting that the early Chrysler Hemi doesn't get more aftermarket attention. There has never been another engine that I can think of that looks so good in an open bay car. It's got to be the coolest looking engine in the galaxy! Look at the Chevy 409, an "Odd-Ball" engine (in...

With a special high pressure pump you can fill it from your home gas line. And if using natural gas, it would be completely powered by a domestic energy source!

Speedway Motors sells the Egge cast pistons for the 392. At something close to $280, they are a good deal. Not 100% sure of the compression, but they are claiming 10 to 1.

Erik,
Early Hemi Engine Parts (formally PAW) still seems to have some kind of Ebay presence. If you can't find the guy Ron Ganster who George told you about above, you might contact Early Hemi Engine Parts through their Ebay store:

Most companies will change the name of a product, or its origin when they are getting ready to dump it. It's possible they are getting ready to spin-off the division.

From what I've seen, the color scheme is silver with black details. Something like this: http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp161/davbraley/Off%20Topic/silver.jpg I think Eastwood also sells the "Chrysler Silver" color for restorers. I'll do a quick search and see if I can find it for you....
