Re: Hay Yall.....
Yes, I have spoken with Eric @ hotheads. Extremely nice people there. He even said I could call him on the spot and give him the numbers and he would let me know what it is. Since the seller said it's a truck engine, Eric told me that the numbers for those were not on their site and I could just ca...

Re: 354 Hemi build
Machining will start soon.
I've been having trouble getting on the phone with Hot Heads. The phone is always busy. They got back to me by email.
Time to empty the bank account. Bad part is, I will have this bad butt looking hemi sitting in the garage with nothing to put it in. Most plan better.

Re: 354 Hemi build
Thank for the info Dan. It's just going to be a street/rat rod engine. 400 hp max. Plan on calling Bob at hot Heads this week to put together an engine kit. The $1200 is for surfacing, boring, cleaning and some other stuff. Price sound fair to you guys? The shop said -10 to 20 on the mains and rods....

Re: 354 Hemi build
The machine called today. Good news!!!!! Everything is in good shape. I have to meet with him tomorrow to discuss the machining. He said all the machining should cost about $1200. Does that sound fair? I will find out what all he wants to do tomorrow.

Re: Adjustable rocker
My 354 had solids with adj pushrods. After break in and the second adjustment they stayed pretty steady. I always wondered how often you really needed to adjust the valve lash on a solid lifter cam in a street car. I would imagine a higher valve spring rate would make adjustment cycles sooner. Does...

Which would be the strongest stock OD tranny? What cars or trucks did it come in?
Is there a difference between truck trannies and cars trannies?

Re: Adjustable rocker
Why not price out all the parts and machining you need for a basic but quality build. See if the extra expense is in the budget. At your power target I think the gain is only convenience. How often are you going to adjust the valves on a cruiser anyway? My 354 had solids with adj pushrods. After br...

Re: Lets talk trannys
The OD only helps out on the highway. In town there isn't any real diffrence vs non OD.If you only driving in town & some street racing, no point in it. If you plan on a lot of Interstate runs to car shows, Power Tour, ect there's big advantage. How important is MPG vs off the stop light perfor...

Re: Lets talk trannys
How much extra work is involved with the 700r4? Will it fit your chassis without being more trouble than its worth? If you go overdrive it might be good to pick your cam so it runs nice at cruising rpms, which means you need to plan your gearing and tire size. Now I'm hosed, I never thought that fa...

Lets talk trannys
I have been thinking about a tranny choice for the 354. I have been thinking 700r4. The over drive is a nice option. What can you guys tell me? What years were they not computer controlled? What power can they handle stock? Is there better years to choose? Truck or car tranny? Is there a better tran...

Re: Brake down or schematic for 1956 354
I think I have a fuelpump eccentric somewhere in my unused parts collection. Its for a 392, if they are interchangable (experts could weigh in on that) you can have it if you don't find yours. Its basically a cup shape with a keyway slot. Also have an oilpump and centersump pickup, again not sure i...

Brake down or schematic for 1956 354
As some of you know, I am building a NE56 that came with 5 hemi's I purchased. Well the 354 was torn down to a short block. I need to see what the other parts look like so I can maybe find them in all these parts I have. This brings the schematic into play. I just got Leo's book so this will help. H...

Re: 354 Hemi build
The intake with the casting number 1534501 is a "wet" intake. It has coolant flowing through it. My 1637625 only has the heat raisers. Correct my if I am wrong. I have heard the the "wet" intake is better, but I really have no clue.

Re: 354 Hemi build
I take it this is a 354 truck engine. If it has the fat sodium filled valve stems you should buy new car valves & the valve guides for them. Does the heads have the square under carb crossover, it should. If so you can look for the 1954 car intake, it's a wet 4 bl. Or you have to drill between ...
