Re: Engine Photos
Thanks, I found a guy selling similar valve covers on E-Bay, contacted him and he was willing to do my pair. I don't know if he's still doing it or not, shortly after doing mine I got an e-mail from him telling me that these were some of the best condition valve covers he's worked on, and that he wa...

Re: Engine Photos
PC Valve: If you want to use a PC valve, and they are very good idea, you'll need to admit filtered make up air into the engine. Otherwise, the benefit of the PC valve (circulating air) will not be realized. You'll also be pulling a vacuum in the engine which can cause issues. There are several way...

Re: Engine Photos
Look in this section for the reply Scott posted of the photos I took Saturday May5,2007 at 9:47 PM. The hoses are attached to the ports at the front of the intake between 1/3 on the driver side and 2/4 on the passenger side. A small amount of material may have to be ground off of the water pump to ...

Re: Engine Photos
just one problem there- you have the early 331 heads with no front water outlet, they would require a "wet" intake manifold to house thermostat and attach upper radiator hose- that engine basically has no rad hose/t-stat capability as is- by what I can glean, you either have to switch to ...

It's going in a '65 Chevy pickup and use the stock 3.07 rear end. It's mostly (or always) going to be used on the street. The truck will basically be stock except for the engine and transmission swap. The only other upgrades I'm doing are brakes (power discs | drums) and power steering. The engine w...

What torque converter to use?
I'm ready to drop the engine and transmission into my chevy truck frame and still haven't bought a torque converter. What I have is a warmed up 331 (with just about every stock replacement Hot Heads replacement part), the cam is a little hotter than stock, but definately nothing too radical. The eng...

I'm using them on my '54 331. I'm 160 miles away from the engine currently but I do have pictures of them on the engine.

No dipstick
I noticed something while up working on my truck this weekend. There is no dipstick for the engine oil... no place in the oil pan for one either. Did I get the only engine that doesn't have a dipstick? This engine is a 331 and came out of a '54 New Yorker.

PS/AC/Alternator Brackets on a '54 331
I'm trying to figure out how to mount all three accessories on my rebuilt '54 331 Hemi. HotHeads has the lower mounts for the A/C and alternator, but say I will need to fabricate a power steering pump bracket. I'm thinking that I would want the P/S pump mounted low on the driver's side and either th...

Balliesdad & 65Valiant: Thanks for the tips and pictures.
Well it fits!!! Pretty damn well too, just need to notch and box in the front crossmember and I should have clearance where I need it.

Engine Test Fit
I've created a website for my '65 Chevy truck that I'll be putting the 331 Hemi in. Here's the link: http://laanderud.com/65chevy . One question I have is that I will need to use a remote thermostat housing... where do I attach it? I've never seen a picture of one attached to the engine. We will be ...

Headers and Low End Torque
I am having a 1954 331 rebuilt to pretty much stock specs but with a little warmer Isky cam and just picked up a set of Sanderson block hugger headers. Now that I've bought them, I'm wondering what if anything these will do to kill low end torque. I'm not planning on racing this thing, but being abl...

Camshaft swap
Okay, newbie question... can I use a camshaft from a 1959 Dodge truck 354 in a 1954 Chrysler 331? I want to the Hot Heads timing gear/water pump housing and need to swap out the long snout cam with a short snout one.
Thanks.

Torqueflite Transmission behind a 331
I have been told that I will want to swap out the 2-speed Powerflite transmission from my '54 331 (C542) for a 3-speed Torqueflite transmission which will bolt right up. Is there anything I need to look for when hunting for this new transmission, I've read about the cast iron vs. aluminum models and...

Will it fit?
I am purchasing a 1954 331 Hemi engine to put in a 1962 Studebaker Lark convertible. The frame rails are 28.5" center to center. My question is will this engine fit in the frame? I've been told to ask someone to hold a tape measure over the heads and measure the engine from outside valve cover ...
