Re: Knurlizing Pistons?
Even if you bore & finish hone your cylinders , there's still a chance that a few pits or imperfections are still visable. If it's a couple of minor blemishes, the chances are it's not enough surface area to make a difference. Note: on Jahns & various other forged pistons, you may be surpris...

Re: realistic hemi question-what to put it in ?
Lets see... motor mounts on my 50 Dodge w/a 354 Hemi. I used the stock motor mounts w/ the rectangular rubber pads they sit "flat" at 90 deg from the block, so all I needed was something to sit them on. I used a piece of reqtangular metal stock & cut it off just under 4" then cut ...

best hp peaks - hp: 647 (1.77 per cid) , tq: 572 (1.57 per cid) (365 cid) Now that makes some of us 354 fans proud. I noticed you didn't just throw a bunch of money at a "super high $" Inglese EFI Weber set up. Never seen those crank scrapers either. I'm also curious about the radical rock...

Re: realistic hemi question-what to put it in ?
If the concept is to utilize the Hemi on a budget, go no further than the other Plymouth & Dodge cars of that era. The ones that came with 6 bangers, like the Wayfarers -n- business coupes. They are cheap & weigh only 3000-3100 lbs. The "High & Mighty" was originally a 1949 ply...

Re: Donovan Aluminum heads in a streetable car
I posted this at the same time you did. So you may not have got the message. Were those tubes meant to protrude into the intake ports? in otherwords when you pull them out will there be large elongated holes roughly 2"X9/16" in the intake ports? Do the sleeves normally seal off big holes i...

Re: Donovan Aluminum heads in a streetable car
Thanks Dale, you were very informative. Please keep us posted on your progress.........now that's a bad @ss Hemi! Ye, I've never had a pair of Donovan 417 heads in my grasps till now. I just got them & they flow even more than I imagined. The "earlier"combustion chambers are also huge ...

Re: Donovan Aluminum heads in a streetable car
I'm still waiting on them. The guy didn't take pay pal, so I had mail out a check. Yep, I know they are flow monsters & lack that low end "streetable" response....all out high rpm's . I just want to drive to the track "streetable". There's a few egomaniacs around here that ne...

Donovan Aluminum heads in a streetable car
I'm considering running a pr of aluminum Donovan (water) heads on a semi-"streetable" car (392 w/large cubes). Hasn't anybody tried this? I was told the earlier aluminum isn't as high of a grade (& subjected to some long term water leaks) I'd like to avoid forced induction, if possible...

Re: 55 Hemi 331 NE-55 Estimated Value
If it is hard to turn over (or plane stuck) It doesn't mean it's no good. 50% of the early Hemi's I pick up are stuck & I don't always reccommend forcing them to rotate. Due to the rocker configuration, any of these that have sat for years(decades) don't rotate. I buy them from all over & am...

Re: 55 Hemi 331 NE-55 Estimated Value
I personally wouldn't let it go for under 800.00 in decent condition. If your offers are low in the 500.00 range, contact me & I will buy it for the heads.( I'd resale the rest to pay for them)

Re: '54 #1486833 331 heads on '57 392
There's basically 3 sets of 54 heads; 1. the small round port heads (boat anchors unless you own a machine shop & remove material) a guy in Fla buys them & opens them up. 2. the low oval port w/water fillers 3. the low oval port w/no water fillers. I take it you have a 54' pair with water po...

Hey, thanks! thats 1st timer 4 the convt top, not Hemi installs. Chop top'n a convertible can change the geometry on numerous functions. Re: Automotive Heads on Marine Block
It's been a couple years since I built my 354 Marine block w/"555" heads. I believe (if memory serves me right) it required 4 step up dowl pins (available at Hot heads) The water crossover can be made with a couple aluminum block off plates with AN fittings. Fenagling a early cast timing c...

Re: hilborn fi unit for 331 hemi
The very 1st Hilborns arent the most desirable. They sat at angles. The 2nd design which sits the stacks straight up is still being remanufactured ( & re-tooled) decades later. I personally watch E- bay & hope for the best. If you want something right now. I've dealt with this guy. His price...

Re: Hemi install 53 Cranbrook Convertible
Regardless if it's 55 (331) or a 57-8 392. They will fit the same mounts & take up the same space( just a lil' deck ht dif.) You can go with stock motor mounts (the easiest to use are the one's with the large square rubber pads) You'll need to attach homemade mounts to the frame. I used large pi...
