Re: hemi in a 59 Dodge Coronet
The # on the front of block, just above the water pump is 5354, anyone know what hemi that is? Are these numbers stamped into the blco and are there any other letters/numbers either before the "5354" or above it? If the numbers are stamped into the block, "5354" appears to the s...

Re: Is Aluminium tranny case unusual in a '56 Desoto with a
Extremely. The aluminum case A904 Torqueflite did not arrive until the 1960 model year and the aluminum case A727 Torqueflite in 1962. The only automatic available in a 1956 DeSoto, the 2-speed Powerflite, had a cast-iron case.musstag wrote:Is Aluminium tranny case unusual in a '56 Desoto with a 330?

Re: Red Ram Hemi in a 59 Coronet?
Anyone have any idea what Hemi is in this 59? It has a 2 barrel with a SN# (fender tag) of H302108850. The # on the driver side front of the head is 1408875 if that helps. Other info on the fender tag is Body 300, Paint MP4, and Trim 152. The car is a 2 door post, pink and white I suspect the VIN i...

Re: FireDome in a FireFlite?
A website visitor writes that he just bought a 1956 DeSoto FireFlite and it has an S23 (FireDome) Hemi engine. Would this have been possible from the factory? Or does it mean that it was swapped? The odds are it was swapped. The 1956 Firedome (S23) had a 330-cid hemi V8, 8.5:1 CR, a 2-bbl carb, 230...

I believe the person who sent you the information is incorrect when he states there were no 4 bbl's in '57. My '57 341 was a stock single 4 bbl from the factory and in addition the high performance 345 that year was equipped with dual 4 bbls. I also have one of those manifolds. The dual quad manifo...

Re: Decode "S26" Suffix Desoto Hemi Please
What do the #'s/letter determine after the S26-? S26- 2867I I've searched alot of early Desoto hemi sites and I cant find any info on the suffix codes. This is what I do know about the engine so far: 57/58 Desoto 341ci, 4bbl, intake #1730414 Where exactly is the block/head serial numbers? An...

Re: can you help to decode 1956 canadian plymouth engine??
If that engine block number you give is right, that block would be a 1957 Plymouth 277 cid engine and should have poly heads. Bob No, 1957 Plymouth model numbers were P30 for the six and P31 for the V8. So a 1957 Plymouth V8 engine would start with P31, an American-built export Dodge Kingsway DP31 ...

Re: can you help to decode 1956 canadian plymouth engine??
Hi, I'm restoring a 56 plymouth belvedere, canadian model, sold as (I think) Dodge sport suburban with Vehicle n°16008356 Body number 308-7969. The engine runs well but doesn't look in a very good shape. The casting reads DP 29 21 90 95 and serial #1618729 on the block. Can I be absolutely positive...

VT-448 is a 331 cu. in. but the VT-549 is not listed in Leo's book. I checked my documentation and can't find that number either. A lot of data is missing on Dodge and Fargo truck engines so the only way to tell for sure on the second one would be to pull the heads and check the bore. If it's physi...

I think the J46 is for Oct. 4, 1956, but I have not found information on the casting number or serial number. Also have heads with cating number 1556157-1 (19...

According to my records, the C68 and C75 is a designation of the car itself, not the engine. An example would be if the engine were in fact from a 55 New Yorker, the engine serial number would be NE55. They are most likely all truck engines however I cannot verify this. Hope this helps  These ...
