Re: 331 Cylinder thickness

He's just saying too many want to do a max bore where in most cases they can't tell the difrence between that & a .030 job. Was your block one with 331 casting # or 354 casting #? can't recall.

Re: 331 Cylinder thickness

I am waiting on a correct size transducer for our sonic tester to test cylinder bores. We have the smaller transducer now, but it is for cylinder head ports and does not give a correct reading for bores. If there is any interest, I will post some numbers for my 56 331. I plan on boring to 354 STD b...

Re: dumb dodge question

i have a junk 241 with usable heads and a good 325 with no heads, will the 241 heads work on the 325? i know the heads will physically fit and i know about the tall deck low deck stuff, but what i am asking is if the 241 heads will flow enough to feed the 325? is this a real concern, or am i just o...

Re: Direct Connection book

Put "Jalopy Journal" in google, then "Hokey A*s*s Message Board" when you get there, then put "Hemi tech index" in search, start reading! The current Mopar Performance Hemi book says..Everyone who knows anything about the early hemis are retired or dead! so the book reprints the shop manual for the ...

You probably need photos to see if they were dropped in still silver or if they might have been repainted some other color to be sure of corectness.

Re: 354 bore limit

Match the actual grind to your C/R, roller cam eliminates the zddp problem. If your block & heads haven't been milled/decked & you don't have adj vavle train you may be OK buying a new cam w/o the adj parts. If you want to run, or have adj. parts, then regrinding the cam can save some money.

Re: 354 bore limit

With those gears sounds like you'll need a lot of C/R & a cam matched to it. If you go 4", the 392 pistons will be 1 point lower C/R than advertised. 10:1 in a 392 is only 9:1 in the 354 because of shorter stroke.

One speed secret there I hadn't heard before! Adding head bolts adds power! :o :D  ------------------- And putting those head bolts on the underside of the engine, so as not to interfere with all that added power, too!!! Oooh boy, I tell ya'....those 'ol Chrysler engineers were a pretty clever...

Re: HEMI is a registered trademark of Chrysler Group LLC.

Anyone can build a hemi, 1st one made in Spain way back, just can't call it a Hemi. Chrysler can call any engine a Hemi if it wants to. The BOSS 429 was a hemi with the top flattened out making it a sort of hemi.

Re: 331 Cylinder thickness

331s aren't underbored 354s. 331 started in 51, 354 didn't come along untill '56, though there are underbored 354s(331s) made after '55. Generally speaking you can bore a 331 out to 354 std bore.

Re: Early Hemi (51) Oil pump drive

Just when I thought I knew most everything about the early hemis, I'm out there about to pre-oil this old lump before trying to start her up after a lot of years of sitting idle (40 years), and I go to pull the intermediate shaft that drives the distributor. No problem. So, I am about to go into th...

no kidding. that was the way they suggested to dispose of it. that's because sodium 'explodes' like a grenade when in contact with water. get rid of them. Never seen what happens when a normal valve breaks going down the road, but I saw what happens when a sodium valve turns loose. Grenade explosio...

I appreciate the input, but I am going to use the dual point. They have been around and worked well close to 100 years.
