Re: Ford's 200th win

NASCAR has nonproduction bodys with nonproduction engines with Ford, Dodge, Chevy or Toyota written on them that has nothing to do with any of those companys whose name is written on them. Drag racing is the same, except they seem to be Chr or Chevy "pattern" resembalence, but no real connection to ...

Re: Stupid Lifter Question...

Generally the early 361-413 lifters are used. Now, if you set them side by side, they're not exactly the same, but they work.

Re: Intake Manifold....

What I would like to know is how the hell did UPS manage to break a cast iron manifold?!! It was two fold and actually ended up being a good thing. First the shipper packed it good. Not great, just good. Secondly, UPS somehow dropped it on concrete. The concrete powder was still on the box a...

Re: Intake Manifold....

George, Is this the little carb you're talking about? Looks like they came on the early to mid 70's Pinto's and Capri's. I bet these carbs can be found in any wrecking yard. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-Ford-Pinto-Capri-122-c-i-R6502-2000-cc-Carburetor-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2eb0272766Q...

Re: Intake Manifold....

On another Forum they were talking about 2 bl carbs used on Pintos & Vegas. One barrel operates normally & the other barrel opens as needed(Progressively) basicly like running 2 1 bl carbs nonprogressive & 2 more 1 bls progressive. Don't remember the CFM though.

The Desoto is a smaller, more compact engine & would be easier to put in a Rod. People will still think you have a 392 if you leave off the DeSoto wire covers! :D

Re: Desoto 330 HEMI on the CHEAP...

Prerecession the 4 bl intake was going for 7-800. I bought one a while back with Chrome thermostat housing & the Offy squeeze plate, delivered by UPS, for 250. But 500 sounds like a deal. However you'll find that speed parts are rarer than Chr & cost more. Not too bad if you stick to basic rebuild.

Re: 331 "W" Block limits

Thanks George. But like I said, unless it sonic tests to where I can go over 354 STD, it's not gonna get bored that far. I will just trade off these NOS pistons for some 331 pistons, or sell them outright. Thanks for all the info yall. If I had the choice of .030 & 8.5 vs maxed out & 9:1, I'd go .0...

Re: 331 "W" Block limits

Hadn't noticed the 1619629 # before, it's not in Leo's book but is here & in my old "Power Play" catalog. Seems 1551629 must be the car block & 1619629 the truck block. 354 would be max overbore where this is an actual 331 block.

Casting # 1619629-2 Date code C 14 6 and then W It also has the W cast into the side of the block as well. Casting # is for both 354 car & truck. Does yours have the small timing cover with bolts @ 11 & 1, or the big cover with a bolt @ 12 O'clock? Sounds like it could be bored to 4.00, but definat...

Re: 331 "W" Block limits

In theory, if it has 354 casting #, and it really is just an underbored 354 w/o any wall thickness adjustments, you should be able to bore to 4.000. 331s that were 55 & earlier shouldn't go past 354 std bore. A 354 typically can go to 4.00 Where does the '56 331 truck block fit in that theory? That...

That's considered max on a 331 for street driving.

I found this at Summit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRD-2025/ Two of those and I could stick two Stromberg 97s or Holley 94s on it. That would probably handle anything I would ever put under them. Course, the 1 barrels may. Who knows? The 97s would have you @ 300 CFM total & the Holleys not a...

I had that same truck intake, sold it for $100 some yrs ago. Supposedly used on firetrucks too & firetrucks aren't slow. The carb looks like the one that came with my intake.
