Re: Hemi History -- According to Hertz
One speed secret there I hadn't heard before! Adding head bolts adds power! :o :D  ------------------- And putting those head bolts on the underside of the engine, so as not to interfere with all that added power, too!!! Oooh boy, I tell ya'....those 'ol Chrysler engineers were a pretty clever...

Think they were talking about doing a 4X2 with Ts instead of a fuel block.

Re: HEMI is a registered trademark of Chrysler Group LLC.
Anyone can build a hemi, 1st one made in Spain way back, just can't call it a Hemi. Chrysler can call any engine a Hemi if it wants to. The BOSS 429 was a hemi with the top flattened out making it a sort of hemi.

331s aren't underbored 354s. 331 started in 51, 354 didn't come along untill '56, though there are underbored 354s(331s) made after '55. Generally speaking you can bore a 331 out to 354 std bore.

Re: Early Hemi (51) Oil pump drive
Just when I thought I knew most everything about the early hemis, I'm out there about to pre-oil this old lump before trying to start her up after a lot of years of sitting idle (40 years), and I go to pull the intermediate shaft that drives the distributor. No problem. So, I am about to go into th...

Re: Sodium Filled Exhaust Valves...
no kidding. that was the way they suggested to dispose of it. that's because sodium 'explodes' like a grenade when in contact with water. get rid of them. Never seen what happens when a normal valve breaks going down the road, but I saw what happens when a sodium valve turns loose. Grenade explosio...

I appreciate the input, but I am going to use the dual point. They have been around and worked well close to 100 years. Properly set up and adjusted, with a good hot coil, they will rival an electronic in most instances with the exception of very high RPM which I have no intention of doing. I am ex...

NASCAR has nonproduction bodys with nonproduction engines with Ford, Dodge, Chevy or Toyota written on them that has nothing to do with any of those companys whose name is written on them. Drag racing is the same, except they seem to be Chr or Chevy "pattern" resembalence, but no real conn...

Generally the early 361-413 lifters are used. Now, if you set them side by side, they're not exactly the same, but they work.

What I would like to know is how the hell did UPS manage to break a cast iron manifold?!! It was two fold and actually ended up being a good thing. First the shipper packed it good. Not great, just good. Secondly, UPS somehow dropped it on concrete. The concrete powder was still on the box a...

George, Is this the little carb you're talking about? Looks like they came on the early to mid 70's Pinto's and Capri's. I bet these carbs can be found in any wrecking yard. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-Ford-Pinto-Capri-122-c-i-R6502-2000-cc-Carburetor-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2eb0272766Q...

On another Forum they were talking about 2 bl carbs used on Pintos & Vegas. One barrel operates normally & the other barrel opens as needed(Progressively) basicly like running 2 1 bl carbs nonprogressive & 2 more 1 bls progressive. Don't remember the CFM though.

The Desoto is a smaller, more compact engine & would be easier to put in a Rod. People will still think you have a 392 if you leave off the DeSoto wire covers!

Prerecession the 4 bl intake was going for 7-800. I bought one a while back with Chrome thermostat housing & the Offy squeeze plate, delivered by UPS, for 250. But 500 sounds like a deal. However you'll find that speed parts are rarer than Chr & cost more. Not too bad if you stick to basic r...

Thanks George. But like I said, unless it sonic tests to where I can go over 354 STD, it's not gonna get bored that far. I will just trade off these NOS pistons for some 331 pistons, or sell them outright. Thanks for all the info yall. If I had the choice of .030 & 8.5 vs maxed out & 9:1, I...

Hadn't noticed the 1619629 # before, it's not in Leo's book but is here & in my old "Power Play" catalog. Seems 1551629 must be the car block & 1619629 the truck block. 354 would be max overbore where this is an actual 331 block.
