breathers

The air has to get into the engine, thats through the breather. It goes through the engine to the PCV valve(1 way valve). It then goes up the hose from PCV valve to the fitting on plate between carb& intake(or fitting on carb if Edelbrock carb is used). A PCV valve on each cover would only work i...

I was involved in the HAMB discussion. How much room do you actually have? If it was extremely little(sounded like it), make a plate out of 1/4 or 3/8 (possibly thicker depending on situation) & screw the fittings into it. That would seem to be the flattest profile you'll get.

What you basicly have is a 55 331 Hemi block. If you get 55 331 or 56 354 heads & use the stock water pump it bolts right up to the heads & block, You woudn't need the crossover. A better plan is to get adaptors & use the Chevy W/P. The long BBC pump will fit over the stock timing cover ...

392 breather

Easiest thing to do is install a breather on one valve cover & drill a hole for a grommet & push in type PCV valve on the other cover, or the oil fill cap.

The Desoto heads are different than Dodge,or Chrysler. If the heads on both engines are bad start hitting the swap meets, or run an ad on swap meet section of Bob Walker's www.hothemiheads.com

The 440 is great for towing & a good power to $ ratio. It beats the hemis in that area, comes up short in the ooh & aah dept. Some think the 241 should only be used in T buckets, but even a mildly built 241 will easily out perform a Ford flathead, & think of all the cars a flathead looks ...

They're all expensive. What are you towing? there is only so much power you can get out of 241 inches. Custom pistons will get you what ever comp. you want. I'd go for 9.5-10.25 range. Most of the big cam co. can read/regrind the cam. Bob Walker at Hot Heads can give good advise on them, I think he ...

Don't know about your tranny. Cam... I'd send it some where to have it checked. Your comp. ratio is 7.1 or 7.5 either way too big a cam would be a real problem, assuming it still has stock pistons.

Where the valley isn't open over the cam (unlike the 318/340) I think it shouln't be a problem.

PCV valve

Seems like you should be able to get a push-in PCV valve,a rubber grommet, & drill the right size hole in the oil cap. If it sucks up oil you might have to insall a shield to the cap.

Bob Walker's lit. talks about changing them to 440 for 392, & 400 Pontiac for 331/354 size for race applications where bearings are changed frequently didn't sound economical for street engines that don't usually get taken apart.the way it reads the rod journals wern't reduced. Haven't heard any...

red ram color

where it's going into a rod the OEM colors are not overly relevant. Based on the name red would be a choice. The NASCAR guys have determined that black sheds the most internal heat, making it a good choice.Or just wait 'till you decide on the body color!

354 intake

The 331-354-392 are 1st generation Hemis. The 392 is massivly popular with drag racers & hot rodders, the 331-354 to a lesser extent. Most of the time you get the engine alone or with a body & ditch the body. Only restorers & people trying to save a few $ want the OEM intake, most go for ...

First Hemis are EXPENSIVE!!!! It would be a major project. You could buy a lot of gas for the cost. A buddie of mine did drop a 400 Chr. B.B. into a 89 Dakota, serious long term project. Emissions illegal too. Your engine should have standard small block bell pattern so tranny adaptors are available....

You will need to change cams. the one you have is for a set speed, not varieing RPM like in a car. use 67 & earlier BB lifters. Most(hate to say all) ind. engines have a tall, narrow heat crossover that goes under the carb. Auto & truck head/intakes have a square port. Unless someone is making...
