IF the rods are in good shape,(must pass zyglo inspection, big ends properly sized, and pin bores in good shape) they will take way more than 13# of boost. We used to run 24#.

RE: rods, the oldest trick in the books is to use Pontiac V-8 rods in a 331/354. It's a drop in setup with only pin fitting required. There are many aftermarket Pontiac rods available AND...the bearings are LOTS cheaper.

If you are refering to the pressure relief/drainback assy. that goes under the rear main cap, I don't like/use them. I much prefer the passage separator so that all the oil goes through the filter. They are available from Hot Hemi Heads. For a low dollar way, drive a small cup plug down the passage ...

I would think 600 is a reasonable estimate. Loong ago, when we only bored'em .030 but stroked'em 5/8 (for 464) , ran .090 down flat tops with 24% overdrive, we figured about 950.

I wouldn't try to pin those cracks. They are, prety much, normal and cause no problem unless they leak water. I have considerable experience with these heads and suggest you call me before taking them anyplace.

392 fixin.

I have a variety of '92 parts and though I haven't seen Jim in several years, he built some good motors. I'm also not that far away( 35 minutes from Santa Susana pass. (805) 386-3311 9/5.

Low lift.

Start by thinking back to the 1940's when those engines were designed. A .400 lift(at the valve) cam was "Full Race". Notice how small the diameter of the cam bearings is, that limits the lobe lift unless you weaken the cam wich will then break under heavy springs. Note the short installed...
