I know This Ain't Hemi Related.....
....but this is my other project. It's a '63 Dart 170 2 door sedan. Slant and a 3 on the tree. I am building a HOT long rod 225 for it. That's a 225 with the 198 connecting rod and 2.2 Chrysler pistons. I know....it's a hermoprphodite...but it WORKS. they have a hellish rod to stroke ratio and unGod...

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts
Thanks for all that info Rob, it's interesting for sure. It seems like the term "Poly" is being used generically. The "Spitfire" was the early version of the Poly engine based on the Chrysler Hemi block design: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Spitfire_V8_engine David Now t...

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts
I see what the deal is. the 318 poly is the bastard child. It has the same bore spacing as the LA engine, but different from all the rest. That's strange.

....and check this article out. It clearly says in the text if you read it that the cranks are the SAME. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/engine/mopp_0109_chryslers_poly_head_engine/index.html Here is an excerpt: "A few more facts are in order here. All of the '56-'66 poly motors...

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts
....and I'm not debating the bore spacing. They are clearly different.....but that article clearly says they have used the LA cranks in the poly blocks. If they can fit in the poly blocks.....I'm thinkin they'll fit in the hemi blocks.

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts
Nope, read this. http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/poly318.html Gary Pavlovich is a well known Poly guru. He says the LA cranks will interchange with simply turning down the counterweights. Seems he's built some. In that article it also says the 4" stroker cranks interchange into the poly....

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts
Why not simply put the 4" LA crank in it? Since those cranks are a bolt in for the poly engines, won't they work in the Hemis too?

I posted this in the wanted section: http://www.thehemi.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4217 I really want to leave heavy milling as an absolute last resort. I have lots of time with this so I can wait. If any of you have some pistons I might can use, please respond to the ad I posted above. Than...

Re: Hay Yall.....
I got the second head cleaned, blasted, magged and primed today. I'm stoked. I spoke with my machine shop today and was told that the block and heads will stand a .070" cut with no problem. This would put compression right around 9.5:1 without the cost of new pistons. This may be the direction ...

Alright, head number one cleaned, bead blasted magnafluxed and primed. I use Krylon ultra high temp barbeque paint for primer. Thanks David. I got it. I also made a little progress on the heads today. Had lots of other stuff to do but I found the time to take the first out of the cleaner and rinse it off and put the second in. I will bead blast the first one tomorrow and take some pictures. They are gonna be beautiful.

Re: Sodium Filled Exhaust Valves...
Thanks mart. I will be adding some good pictures soon as I get everything cleaned up. Gonna take me a bit cause all I got is a five gallon bucket of carb cleaner. Can only do half a head at the time and then I'm gonna bead blast um after that. Gotta do all to it that I can since I'm on such a tight ...

Sodium Filled Exhaust Valves...
Howdeeee. I would like to get opinions about running the sodium filled exhaust valves. I am going to build a warm street motor....my goal is an honest 300 HP. Nothin crazy. Just somethin to cruise and have fun with. They are in excellent condition. As are the seats and guides. I know beyond a shadow...

Re: 331, 354, 392 Exhaust manifolds
Yup, they sho nuff will. As for whether or not there are different mannyfolds with different body styles I don't know. But they will interchange. I think the early industrial 331s had round exhaust ports, so I'm not sure if those manifolds would interchange, but the rest will. Maybe a more experienc...

Re: Hay Yall.....
Unless things have changed, the only cast pistons were 8.5s unless you found an old set of Jahn's. That's what I thought....those are all I can find as well. However, check this out. I found it doing a general search for Hemi builds. http://www.streetrodderweb.com/tech/0810sr_331_chrylser_hemi_engi...

Re: Hay Yall.....
Man,.100" cut on the heads is an auful lot. You're going to need special push rods.Dip stick hole is located on the driver side inline with the dist.post hole at the rear of the block. Well it is a very common mod for the slant crowd to go .100"-.150" on the slant heads...and they sti...

I know this is gonna sound stupid..but where is the oil dipstick supposed to be located on this engine? As of yet, I have not found where it goes. Also, what will I do about an oil fill loaction? The oil fill location now is located in the timing cover. I am probably going to go the Chevy water pump...

Re: Hay Yall.....
It certainly seems I might have a lot of options. I would rather find some pistons that would bring compression up with what I have now. I noticed PAW has a listing for both 7.5 and 8.5 for the 331. I might give them a call too. I will call EGGE Monday and see what the scoop is. Thanks.

Re: Hay Yall.....
" As far as pistons & C/R is concerned, the 7.5 is nominal. A few that I've read where actual measurements of C/R was done have come in up to a full point low. Custom pistons about doubles the pistion bill, but a measured 9-10:1 is a lot better than stock replacement that might be only 6.5...
