Re: HI New Guy Here! Desoto Hemi Question
You can definitely fit it in there, but the power steering will have to go. Pretty much any Mopar manual steering box will work, but there are two different size sector shafts available (the splined shaft that the pitman arm goes on) so you would want to watch for that. You would also have to change...

Re: What's your street carbueration?
I totally agree with Mart and Wayfarer on the factory 4 barrel intake. I had one on my 392 with a 1/2" aluminum spacer to adapt it to the Holley. The center divider was removed and the plenum opening blended into the adapter plate. I later changed it out for a Hot Heads dual plane intake and fo...

That's just a start, I've got a feeling that there's going to be a lot more of this when the regular elections come around!

Re: Computer for stock alternator
You can use the stock Mopar two pin electronic voltage regulator. That's what I did on the 5.7 in my Cuda. Just wire the two small wires from the alternator to the voltage regulator and splice in a 12 volt wire to one of them from the ignition circuit and you're good to go!

Re: Daily driver 354 vs 383
the ports may look "huge" but they really aren't- the 354 and 392 hemis had 145-150 cc intake ports, the 1954-55 331 hemis had 175 cc intake ports- to give a good comparison, a Pontiac 350 and 350 Chevy small block has 150 cc intake ports unlike the later 426, the early hemis were primari...

Re: Engine Dressup Clearcoat?
Eastwood has pretty good prices on that stuff, but you have to make sure you have an oven big enough to hold the parts you will be doing without touching the sides, as the powder is easily wiped off before it's baked on. I wouldn't suggest using the wife's oven either!

Re: 5.7 Hemi in an '86 Ramcharger
I'm not sure what style of motor mounts the Ramcharger has, check with TTI and see if their adapter plates will work for your application. As for the TF727, it will bolt right up to the 5.7 with no problems if it's a small block tranny. You will need to get a flexplate from Mopar Performance (the ea...

Re: Filled exhaust crossover
I ran my 392 with the Hot Heads dual plane intake, which has no crossover, with no problems. The carb I ran didn't even have a choke on it, it was a Holley 750 vac. sec. carb with a Proform body. Of course, we're only talking in the 30's here in the mornings during the winter (southwest New Mexico)....

Arlen Vanke
Arlen showed up at the house yesterday. Since I swapped the 392 for a 5.7 in the Cuda and I have a son going off to college next year I decided to sell the 392 to a buddy of mine for his 31 Roadster. He brought Arlen (who lives here in Deming now) over to show him the engine. I've talked to Arlen at...

Re: what does HEMI mean?
So how does Chrysler have the nerve to call these new "Hemis" a hemi. As a long time fan of the original Hemi engines I don't like seeing these dual plug pent roof engines being called Hemis just to market new products. 'Hemi' is a trademarked name, and Chrysler owns the rights, they can ...

Re: Automotive Heads on Marine Block
Chrysler industrial and marine hemis were only made in 331 & 354 c.i. models. The 392 c.i. hemis were only put in passenger cars in 1957 & 1958, they were never used in industrial or marine applications.

Re: Dart Swinger, hemi swap
The early hemi is smaller and lighter than a late hemi, so I'd suspect that it would fit. Thanks, Danny Danny, I don't know where you got your info, but the early hemi is not smaller than the late hemi, it's actually wider than the 426 hemi was. That's why there is so much issue with the steering b...

Re: 392 hemi vs 426 hemi
i am thinking about changing engines in my 34 5w from 331 to 426 ,my question is are the engine mounts / lugs the same , apart from above post differences, are the mounting holes in back of block the same as a 331 / 392 what are the differences i need to look for between the 331 /392 versus the 426...

Some might say a 750 is too big for a 354, but I would go with a Holley 750 vacuum secondary carb. It can be tuned to the engine and will run great on it.

Re: realistic hemi question-what to put it in ?
I say this with all due respect, not trying to flame anyone, but why would you put an early Hemi in a Cuda in the first place- when a 440RB/426Hemi will bolt right in and make more power ? The early Hemi in Cuda swap just makes no sense to me- unless the engine, parts, and labor was free, and I had...

Re: realistic hemi question-what to put it in ?
There is a kit being made to put them in the Mopar 1962-up B-body and E-body cars, it costs around $350. But I hesitate to go that route, because those cars readily accept the 440 wedge and 426 hemi- it makes no sense to hack everything to death in a 1970 Cuda just to put an early Hemi in that make...
