That was pretty fast back then considering dragsters were only running in the 10's. The auto industry sure has come a long way.

Re: realistic hemi question-what to put it in ?
They fit pretty easily into any 1935-1950 Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler or Desoto car or truck. They're still cheap and easy to find. Motor mounts are a cinch. Just flip around a set of LA mounts and massage them a little and you're in business. Any engine swap is going to have quirks but if you know wh...

That's better than most of the blocks used for racing. You're gonna be fine even if you need to go another .060" beyond 3.72".

I've been told they were installed in Oliver combines but I've never actually seen one. That would be one cool thrashing machine though.

Re: 276 Over Bore Newbi Question
It depends on the casting. The earlier ones may be a little thinner due to water jacket mold changes as the years progressed but you can't tell without sonic checking it. When you bore a motor .090" over you're really just taking .045" of actual material off the walls. That's why alot of p...

This kind of BS is why nobody likes you. Good or bad, facts are facts. All blocks are different. I got a really bad one for a big overbore. 331's are still thicker on average than the rest. FYI - I hung up on you because you think your stuff is like gold and everyone else's is worth nothing. You sai...

Found another intresting block....
I just picked up a 354 block stamped "M354" on top. It's a 354 casting with holes drilled to mount eaither early or post 1954 oil pan and it doesn't have the extra water holes on the front of the block. It's drilled for the early front cover though.

I considered the turbo setup but it was way too much money, all custom plumbing, and they don't work well without EFI. Custom manifolds, EFI, spark control and intercooling will easily double the cost of your engine build :o The stroker setup I outlined will cost around 2K total including rings, bea...

I am building my car as a dedicated street motor. I can't fit tires larger than 235/60-15 on the car so my feeling is that anything more than 450 HP is just for bragging it is wasted HP. I totally agree with the advice that you can't build a motor to run well at boost and non-boost. I guess I was b...

Original guides with oiling holes - use em or chuck em?
I'm debating on whether or not to change the guides on my 1955 331 heads. The exhausts have oiling holes in them. I've heard that they didn't even use valve stem seals on the exhaust side when the engines were built. They're in perfect shape and will only require a pass with a reamer to make sure th...

The Boss 429 was never intended to compete in drag racing, and neither was the 427 cammer. They were created to compete with the 426 hemi - an unstoppable force in NASCAR in the 60's. All of these engines made really big cars go really fast. NASCAR banned all of them/overregulated them out of compet...

As a note : I really dont recall hearing any horror stories about stock main caps or bolts in a stock or mild street application. My point exactly. Don't fix it if it ain't broken. An interesting point is that today's advancements in camshaft profiles and head porting have really raised the potenti...

none of the above
The stock caps should hold up for a street motor. If you really think you need more strength, get the Pro-Gram 2-bolt main cap set and use studs. My $0.02

low deck stroker info
Peter, how much clearancing did you have to do with your 4.25" stroke/6.625" stock rod 354 stroker motor? Were the pins still below the oil ring land or did you have to use buttons to hold them in?

It's in nice shape so I'd like to freshen it up. I need a vacuum advance pot, points and condenser set and performance curve springs (new stock ones would do but something must fit). I guess I haven't been keeping track of time very well. I used to be able to get this kind of stuff at the local part...
