Re: Chevy Distributior?
Hey George, yep 3x4. I started a thread called 12 pak tunnel ram fabrication down below somewhere. 3 AFB's in a row are just about the length of a valve cover so that's why I'm concerned with dizzy height. The plan is to have the plenum kind of curve around and over the dizzy. The higher the plenum ...

Re: Chevy Distributior?
I've been comparing pics of the Mallory diz and 318 diz. Judging solely from those pics it looks like the Mopar is somewhat taller than the Mallory, the MSD is even taller. Could anyone measure the heights of their dizzies. Is a stock 392 diz the same as a Mallory? If the 392 is the lowest I'll look...

Re: Chevy Distributior?
Well I got hold of an inexpensive chevy distributor and fitted the adapter to it. I'm disappointed in how much higher its gonna sit on the block. Not only will it look odd, like the Seattle Space Needle, it will block my idea of a 3X4 tunnel ram manifold. What I need is to be able to tuck the dizzy a...

Oil Pump Gear Clearance?
What would be the clearance between gears and cover? Everything I read says make sure there's not too much clearance but nowhere do I find what is a good clearance, in real numbers. This is a stock 392 pump. yeah I know alot of peep say just replace the pump with a 340, but then I also read some com...

I'm a ways off yet before I have to deal with the headers and steering box problem but if/when you get around to it, I would appreciate a pic of what you did.
In the meantime I'm drumming my fingers waiting for my block/crank to come back. Tum dee dum dum. Gives me time to think/plan.

Re: 12-Pak Tunnel Ram fabrication
In these pics you can see the taper I mentioned. Also can see how close the formed tube fits the intake spacer port. Any overlap can be trimmed after welding. Oh, welding. I still have to teach myself how to MIG weld. I never let not knowing something stop me from trying. Potential problems I see so...

12-Pak Tunnel Ram fabrication
Ok I finally got started. This project will be similar to the PAW type tunnel ram manifold. Twist is its going to have 3 AFBs. I got a pair of manifold spacers which will act as the head flanges. I got some 2" ID X 1/8" wall aluminum tubing to form the runners. As it works out the circumfe...

Measurements Needed
My block is still at the machinist but I'd like to start planning my home fab intake manifold. On a 392 I'm looking for the following measurements... 1) distributor offset from engine centerline 2) Distributor center to the last intake manifold bolt hole(drivers side), or dist to engine centerline(f...

Re: Piston comparison
Way back in the seventies I had a 354 with 11:1 Jahns cast pistons. Well, they were advertised as 11:1 but I couldn't say what the actual CR was. Anyway, I experienced no problems with the gas back then, but who knows how that compares to today's gas and what kind of pump gas we might have in the fu...

Re: Remote water pump for the street?
It would still have a thermostat on the crossover, so overcooling shouldn't be a problem. Unless for some reason too much pressure builds up in the cooling system. Hmm, I wonder how the impeller gets lubricated. When there's no flow(cold, thermo closed) the impeller still turns so I'd guess a bypass...

Remote water pump for the street?
Hmmm, this idea seems interesting. Would certainly clean up the appearance of the motor and maybe shorten the overall length of the motor, engine bay being small. The pumps I see start at under $200 plus whatever else is needed to make it work. Maybe I'm being dumb but it'd be shame to cover up a ni...

Chevy Distributior?
With the motor came an adapter for a chevy distributor. There's a whole bunch of distributors available. Can anyone simplify the decision for me? What to look for, what to avoid? I expect a tight fit next to the firewall so a small, female socket cap is better I think. I found a pertronix hall effec...

Re: PAW Tunnel Ram manifold?
With this type of intake, you will see that the port size is compromised..... due to the original bolt hole location. Note the indentations in the AIU runners for bolt clearance. That extends into the port itself, limiting porting. If you look close at my intake, you will see there are still 4 bolt...

Re: Tunnel rams for ported heads
Its nice to see the work in progress! I don't know if this is even possible or practical but, if the bolts are "competing for "air space" within the port"...could you minimize the bolt intrusion by using a smaller sized bolt with a thread adapter? I mean a tube that is threaded o...

K1 Rods?
I see that K1 rods designed for the 392 actually use big block mopar bearings. Is this a simple matter of snapping in the bearing or are there some mods needed that I haven't read about? Like narrowing the bearing?

Re: THREE AFBs?
Wow that 4x4 is impressive looking. I've been checking into flow rates of AFBs and while certainly still a rookie I'm thinking 400CFM carbs for the street is the ticket rather than 500 and up carbs, in multi carb setups that is. I found this online... CFM Venturi Diameter Bore Diameter primary secon...

Piston comparison
Woohoo, my Ross pistons came in yesterday! As soon as I unwrapped the first one I was struck by how light it felt compared to the old Jahns, and it had been weeks since I last touched the Jahns. So of course I had to compare them. The Jahns is 28% heavier than the Ross. And looking at the pics you c...

Here's the tubes , side by side. You can see the stock tube has a flare and the PAW has a stepped end.
