Re: Intake Manifold....

I wonder if you could modify that intake to put another carb in the middle? Not that you need it, I'm just thinking out loud....

Re: Head gaskets?

Just to add some more helpful (hopefully) info, Over on the HAMB, If I have a unusual problem related to these early elephant motors, I find that george, 73RR (wayfarer here), mart, and TRWaters are some very reliable sources for information. If you're feeling a bit jubby about asking a question for...

Re: Head gaskets?

Who are we talking about bein a jerk here? If it's me, I sure would like to see some posted evidence. I've been as careful as a church mouse because I need to learn. If folks think I'm a jerk, I can cure that real easy. I can just get all the books I can and learn it myself and kiss the net goodbye...

Re: Head gaskets?

Rob, The only thing I know for sure is that the 1955 331 has a unique head gasket. Why it doesn't fit the earlier 331's or the year later 354 I don't know. The 392 head gaskets use a different diameter alignment dowels. My guess is that a 354 head gasket can be made to work. You might have to make s...

Re: Got My Hemi Book Today!!

I've read mine at least five times, and I still learn something from it each time I open it up. I've used it so much, I will need to buy a new one soon. My copy is getting worn out! I think it was george or mart that talked about some small mistakes in the book. I still don't know where or what part...

Re: I know This Ain't Hemi Related.....

I like it! Of course, I would put the Hemi in the Dart, leave the patina, and enjoy the looks on peoples faces when they see nothing but tail light from a "Grandmas car." Can you imagine how scary the understeer would be in that thing from having 800 lbs of Hemi sitting under the ho...

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts

I sometimes daydream of someone casting an early Hemi style block and heads with the BBC bore spacing. Slightly longer rocker arm shafts, a custom set of valve covers and oil pan, and you have an engine that looks just like an early Hemi, but instead with access to tons of crank and rod choices. Eve...

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts

Thanks for all that info Rob, it's interesting for sure. It seems like the term "Poly" is being used generically. The "Spitfire" was the early version of the Poly engine based on the Chrysler Hemi block design:

which company make a stroker crank for the 392 There where several companies making stroker cranks for these engines back in the day. I think Velasco? (spelling) might have been one. I'm sure any of the smaller custom crank companies would make you one, but it's going to be spendy. I'm sure george,...

Well, sorry about that Rob. Looks like I wasn't paying attention. It says on the Amazon site, "Usually ships between 1-3 months." :o

Amazon still shows it as available though. I see one used, very good condition copy available for $13.61 from one of their resellers. I would grab it!

Re: Hay Yall.....

I could be wrong, but I think TRWaters was dusting off the tops on some of the two barrel intakes with a milling machine, and then boring four holes. He adds a custom made aluminum adapter to effectively convert the intake from a 2bbl to a 4bbl. I'll see if I can find those pictures.... Found them! ...

Re: Hay Yall.....

Rob, All early Hemi cranks came with non-threaded holes at the rear flang. One thing a lot of people will do is tap those holes for 1/2-20 flywheel bolts. The holes in the end of the crank flange are already the correct size to tap 1/2-20. These motors have some quirks that you won't see on other en...

Re: Hay Yall.....

Now george or mart will correct me, but I've read somewhere that the truck heads are desirable. Something about the port shapes or sizes. They also come stock with the hardened seats. And of course, you already know that the 4 bolt exhaust manifolds are worth their weight in gold. Don't give those a...

Re: Hay Yall.....

My book is showing a 331 Dodge Truck engine. Even though it's from a Dodge Truck, it's a Chrysler Hemi. Even at $400 for a 331, it was a fantastic deal! Some of the early truck blocks also have extra thick cylinder walls. A sonic check might show you can safely bore it out to a 354. Hopefully george...

Re: Hay Yall.....

There is a serial number stamped just in front of the valley pan on the block, close to the waterpump. It's stamped on the same surface the valley pan bolts to. The valley pan is the tin cover under the intake manifold. Let us know what the number is, and maybe we can help. Here is an example of a n...
