Drilling for water - 354 Industrial/Truck/Marine heads
I have 3 sets of these heads. I will cut the end off one of them & send photos of the inside if you don't get a good answer. You will know where to drill. I have given thought to drilling them. Just no reason to do it 'till now. Buddy

bypass for the oil filter on a marine block
I am done with the 331 marine short block assembly. On the boss for the oil filter the normal two outlets are sealed with o-rings and the third small port ,which I think was the bypass on a marine engine, is on the right side of the two larger ports. I tapped it with an 1/8th inch pipe plug deep eno...

1956 354 Head vs. the triple Nickle 555 Head
I am under the impression the only difference might be the fact the 555 331 heads have 100 cc chambers and the 354 heads will have 105cc chambers. I think the 392 heads have 110ccs. I have never measured any of them but that is what I read somewhere. My two cents.

"Where are you?" That seems to be a question that almost every post brings up. Scott should make it mandatory in the profiles. It seems that everyone is trying to hide their identity/and/or location. Update your info so the reader at least can know where you are.

318/340 harmonic balancer
You have to broach a larger key way in the correct location so the timing mark comes up at t.d.c. The old groove is only about1/2 as wide as it needed to be and in the wrong place.. I am getting it broached a 1/4" wide so the mark is close to the correct T.D.C. We will see. LOL

Re: Will I need different heads?
I have a 331 longtail and am planning on building a marine engine once I find a good block. Will my heads work on a marine block and also the cam? I have a complete disassembled 331 marine hemi. Do you want the marine specific crank or the auto style which connects to the trans from the rear of the...

Blown Street 392 Hemi Bottom End
I think the authority on the subject would be Bob Walker at Hot Heads. He builds and sells a lot of early hemis . Give him a call. Or email. I just had the full set of five of his caps installed on a 392. It now looks indestructible. The 4.400 crank going in it is almost finished at Crankshaft Speci...

You may have to remove the crank and trans as a unit. Remove all the rods and pistons you can and take all the remaining rod caps off, remove the balancer along with the chain and cam gear, remove all the main caps, drill or drive out the dowels for the trans as well as the bolts on the bellhousing,...

Look in the Hemi classifieds . I have all the stuff you need to build a marine engine , including new pistons, rings, bored block, pan, rebuilt heads, crank turned .010/.010 ,intake and the two single one barrel carbs. Also . I have the right or left cam. and other stuff I can't think of at 1:50 AM ...

I weighed the sodium valves and they are actually lighter than solid valves so there is a small benefit there if you don't reuse the rotators. If you are not afraid of using used valves I have several sodium filled ones you can have for the postage if you need them. I would have to ask the gallery i...

Bore spacing, block deck ht ?
Block/deck height of a 392 is 10.870. I have not measured a 331/354 so I can't give that one. Bore spacing on a 331/354/392 are all the same. If you have any one just measure it and you shold have it for all three. I have an uncut 331 I can use to measure the deck height in a few days. Will do the s...

Flow on 392 stock heads?
Maybe some of the advantage the old guys thought they saw in the 555 heads was not so much that the heads flowed better ,just that the chambers were 10 ccs smaller & they got a little umph from more compression by bolting them on 392s. Buddy

Look at what D>A>D> is saying they are getting from the littlest heads hemis had on auction# 140002455609 . Impressive or blowing smoke to sell an inferior product, a head no one wants to use. Any comments?

If you use the 354 heads remember that they have 105cc chambers as the 331 heads have 100. Adjust the head milling to compensate or you will loose a little compression if you use stock type pistons and not custom jobs. I have a set of new 331 pistons with rings and rebuilt rods I took out of a marin...

I enjoyed reading the stories and the photos of the dragsters at the various drag strips in and around Texas. I raced a modified production '55 Chevy back in the '60s and early '70s. I particularly enjoyed the track at Green Valley in Grapevine, Texas. We would tow the car up from Houston every year...

331/354/392 bore/stroke combinations
" If the blocks had cylinder walls .375 thick you could easily take them out more than twice that amount, a 392 could go to 4.125 leaving a very safe .250 wall..." If you bore any cylinder to 4.125 after beginning with a wall thickness of .375 you will still be left with a wall thickness o...

I do cylinder head work. I have a couple of sets of the heads you have. I plan on cutting the guides flush with the heads on the spring side and cut the port side back about half of what is sticking out. I am going to bore the existing guides to 1/2 inch and install bronze guides, not guide liners, ...

Anyone have copies of the Street Rodeder Hemi build-up?
I bought all the copies and made a 30 page front/back set. I first cut all the series out with a razor blade & trimmed the small pages to combine them to one page as best as I could. Pretty seamless. I am selling them for $10.00 for the complete series , including shipping. Email your address an...

331/354 stroke combinations
I am working on a 354 to go to Bonneville in 2006. It is going in a roadster. The C.I. limit we are trying to get under is 377 ci. The block is bored .090, using a +.030-392 piston. The distance from pin center to the deck is 1.750. It has a .720 dome. The crank is offset ground for a big block rod ...

copies of the Street Rodder series on hemis
I got the copies made . I cut, colored, and pasted for 4 hours at Office Max and broke three of their copiers getting them done. I made them front/back to cut down on the weight for mailing. I think $10.00 is a fair price for anyone that wants a set. It is a 30 page pile. I lightened the prints but a...
