resurecting 392
I saw in a magazine where they knocked a hole in a cylinder of a 318 on purpose & sleeved it, hole was, say 1 or 1 1/2 square. Article stated it ran fine & is viable fix on expensive engines. Not shure about adding stress of blower though.....

If your'e new to Hemis you should get Tex Smith's Hemi Book from Hot Rod Library. There are differences between car, truck, ind., & boat Hemis. As in what & when things happened. One key part above was 354 "truck" heads. The truck heads are solid on the ends like the 51-54 car engi...

the usual thing is to get 54 heads. Not only larger valves but bigger ports/runners, plus the use of the 4bl intake.

can this block be saved
You could boil out the block & see what it looks like. There was an article in 1 of the Mopar Mags. They were saying that some racers sleeve new blocks for increased strenth/regidity. They also broke a hole through the wall of a 318 & sleeved it to show it could be done. If the bores are in ...

You probably should have started a new thread. First, get Tex Smith's Hemi Book from Hot Rod Library. 2nd, unless your doing a restoration toss the trany. Get an adaptor for your fav. tranny. 3rd Ive heard of drag racers using big stroker cranks, I've also heard that early Hemi strokers like to thro...

The 331 cams have the snouts. The raised deck of the 392 is the cause of the difference in cams, 331 & 354 interchange 392 doesn't.

The tag should have info. There is a flat in front of the valley cover that may have a code stamped in it. There should be # on the pass. side rear between the head & valley cover. Does it have a modern bell housing or an overhang (long tail) like a flathead Ford?

270 heads on a poly
In theory both blocks should be the same. Are the hole not there, or just not enough clearance? One of my Chr. 331 blocks has additional clearances. Visualize a Mickey Mouse hat with only one ear.

The heads are the same. They changed the intakes. that's the difference between high & low deck Dodge engines. Check out Doc Fromaders 315 build on Webrodder.

Low deck blocks use low deck intakes & high block use high intakes regardless of heads. You'll need a low block intake, or a log type that can compensate for the difference.

If the spark plug wires go into the middle of the valve covers, it's a Hemi. If the valve covers are scaloped ( wavey on the bottom) & plugs in usual location, it's a Poly. The only difference is the head assembly, pistons, & push rods. They both use same block. If it's a Poly or Hemi, the c...

This intake was cast iron, marked "Cunningham" & "West Palm". As stated above it is 2 logs w/ a 1bl at each end. The throttle control is choke cable w/ the housing cut away where each carb's throttle lever would attach, obviously not for auto use.

Considering that 90% or rods have a Chevy, most "general interest" mags. are 90% Chevy,& the way the TV announcers fawn over the Chevy drivers, an "any-thing-but-Chevy" outlook is reasonable. Show me a rod with a Hemi,Cleveland, or a Nailhead anyday!

It should be noted, probably on the copies, that the man who did the machine work in the series is dead. His family would probably appreciate not being called. Seems the job of cutting down the valves was a bit tedious, might be better getting them from Hot Heads.
