It should be noted some marine hemi turn the right way & some the wrong way! If you put one in that turns the wrong way, strange things will happen when you put it in gear! I've hear that each has its own firing order & that both are different than the car.

51-54 car front covers cover the extra holes. If you don't mind running an electric fuel pump you can use the Hot Heads aftermarket cover. There are a lot of tranny adaptors for GM & Mopar trannys.

Have you looked at the crossovers @ Hot heads? I' m thinking the thermostat housings for Dodge & DeSoto point off to the sides instead of strait forward.

There ia a Hemi cut away engine in the Garlits Museum in Ocala Fla.

If you run lower octane than required you may get "detenation" also known as "knock" or "pinging". This is when the fuel explodes instead of burning properly. Timing can be retarded to compensate, but with loss of efficientcy. It can damage "break" things.

Up on webrodder Doc Fromader had the drive gear section cut off, & one from a normal cam welded on. See his 315 build.

OEM tranny is a 2 speed. You'll get better everything w a s/b 727. The adaptor isn't cheap, but what is w a Hemi!

It would be a 330 or 341. The tranny adaptors for the Chr. is supposed to work on Dodge & DeSoto. I'd go w a 727

According to Tex Smith's book the tall deck Dodge & the low deck DeSoto intakes are the same except for the bolt pattern. Valve reliefs on a Hemi centered across from each other. On the Poly they are offset. Rods are the same.

The Dodge D501 is a 354, same as the 56 Chr. 300.

Shop manual will get you through the basic rebuild. U might want to get Tex Smith's Hemi Book from Hot Rod Library. There is some Hemi build info (Chr & Dodge) @ webrodder.

Let us know if she comes up with anything usefull, usually you find manuals at swap meets. The Mopar produced "Hemi Engines" is mostly 426 info, early Hemi stuff is reprint of shop manual pages on the Chr. Tex Smith's Hemi Book has some stuff on Dodge & Desoto, but is still sparse.
