Just for fun ;-)

Brian Bass's 29 Model A Coupe. This one runs a 331 that sounds just right:

As I've mentioned before, this car is a huge inspiration for my own 29 project.

Valves for Rob

Hey Rob, I remember some discussion earlier about you dumping the Sodium filled, and going with something else. Just ran across these on Ebay. Looks like a good set. Still a little pricey in my book, but cheaper than what I've been seeing out there: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/392-HEMI-STAINLESS-...

Re: Intake Manifold....

Looking Good Rob! Probably not as good as the one you have near you, but we have a great ACE Hardware here in Fort Collins too. I love that place. I tell my wife that when I retire someday, I'm going to work at ACE just for fun. I'll be the ancient old dude, barely able to lift his feet off the floo...

Re: Early Hemi (51) Oil pump drive

You will find that the oil pump drive shaft is just a tad under 1/2". It's 0.486" to be a little closer. It needs to be that size to fit inside the bronze guide bushing. 8)

You know what, I just read your first post, and now I'm thinking I misunderstood what you where saying. Sorry about that. I was under the impression that you did find a distributor, but the vacuum can was bad. If that's not the case, then (to the sound of Gilda Radner), NEVER MIND! http://www....

Re: Distributor.

I would bet either of these will work. You just need to use the spring from your old vacuum advance so it's curved right. Keep your eyes pealed. These things are more common than you think: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/57-DODGE-57-60-PLYMOUTH-VACUUM-ADVANCE-8-CYL-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cf928...

Rob,

The vacuum advance thingy-magigies come up on Ebay all the time. I've seen them go for as little as $12.

Re: Intake Manifold....

Rob, Now that I think about it a little more, even less might be better. I think I remember you saying that you where not going to rev this thing very high. Maybe a pair of the little Rochester 278's would be better. It still puts your four-barrel equivalence close to 400 CFM's. According to an onli...

Re: Intake Manifold....

George, You bring up an interesting idea that complicates the whole idea of the conversion between the two types of carbs, and whether the CFM equality is the most important thing to look at. The idea as I understand it, and this is straight from Tex Smith's book, second paragraph, page 65: "Th...

Re: Engine Stand Worthy of a Hemi!

Thanks for the compliments. I've been impersonating a machinist now for about 35 years. I'm also super lucky to have a modest tool set here at home I'm very proud of. Just enough kit to get me in lots of trouble! It's all old with lots of wear (like me), but most of it's the good stuff. 8)

Re: Intake Manifold....

George, Is this the little carb you're talking about? Looks like they came on the early to mid 70's Pinto's and Capri's. I bet these carbs can be found in any wrecking yard. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-Ford-Pinto-Capri-122-c-i-R6502-2000-cc-Carburetor-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2eb0272766QQ...

Re: Intake Manifold....

That looks great Rob! If you want to limit your total CFM to 500 CFM or a little more, try to find a pair of the larger base two barrels. These Rochester models have the fuel inlet on the front of the bowl. The side inlet carbs are the small base and only flow about 278 CFM's at 3" of mercury e...

Re: Engine Stand Worthy of a Hemi!

Hello All! I've got some more pictures ready to share of my stand build. After getting the box secure to the stand, I proceeded to finish up my crank handle. I first used a piece of scrap round stock I found in a bin to make a spacer that will go under the handle. I will also machine a matching radi...

Hello All! Sorry for not updating this thread. I finished the basic stand more than a month ago, but I've been so busy, I have not been able to make a post. I'm finding it takes a lot more time to process pictures for a build thread than I thought! So I'm going to add to this thread a little ...

Question About The Old Holley 94 Carbs

I've been doing some research (because it cost nothing! HA!) on the early Holley 94's, and there is a thread over on the HAMB that talks about the estimated CFM ratings of these old carbs. There's several threads, but this one seems to have the most info: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthrea...

Rob, you are correct. Even on this very site, the number is listed as a 55-56 331. My reference materials are not very complete I guess. Just to make myself even look dumber, I didn't even realize thehemi.com even had a reference section with casting numbers. Doh! I need to explore this place...

Casting # 1619629-2 Date code C 14 6 and then W It also has the W cast into the side of the block as well. Casting # is for both 354 car & truck. Does yours have the small timing cover with bolts @ 11 & 1, or the big cover with a bolt @ 12 O'clock? Sounds like it could be bored to 4.00, but...

With those adapters, you could also run a couple of the 2 barrel Rochester carbs. When did those Rochester 2 barrel carbs start being built? I once owned a 66 Pontiac GTO that had three of them! EDIT: Found them! "The 2G (later 2GC and 2GV) carburetor, commonly called DualJet, was introduced in...
