HELP, 426 hemi block casting numbers. I need a decoder

Post by hemibee »

I have a 426 hemi block that i need help decoding, This particular block must have been an ex super stock or someting? Some of the casting numbers have been ground off. The only thing left of the date code is
18-68. The pad next to the distributor has nothing stamped on it. The pan rail is stamped with (O) or (0) B159377. The back of the block in the bellhousing area around by the starter is stamped MN426300958217.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The "0B159377" is for the last eight digits of the VIN of the car the engine was installed.

0 - 1970 model year
B - Hamtramck. MI
159377 - Sequential production number
The Hamtramck plant built Valiants, Darts, Barracudas and Challengers in 1970 so this engine came out of either a Barracuda or Challenger.

The "MN426300958217" is the engine serial number.
MN = Marysville, MI engine plant
426 = 426-cid
3009 = Assembled October 23, 1969
58217 = This should be the daily sequential production number, but it is too large.

If you had a number stamped next to the distributor it would look like -
- FH426
10 - 23 - xx
