My castings confuse me, please help.

Post by rkmagee »

On another site when I decoded my block it said it was a 64-66 426 hemi, but my heads are decoded as 383 and are definitely not hemi heads. is this even possible? Let me give you the numbers and see if anyone can help.

Block 2532230-2

Heads 2406516

Thanks, Bobby Magee

casting?

I was a bit fast with the head casting. It seems that # was used on 361, 383,413, & 426 wedge engines. You probably have an original 426 Max Wedge engine, not a Hemi, but what a place to start a mid 60's project!

Thanks. Believe it or not the engine was found in a 1973 Charger we bought for my son. He needed a senior project for school and the car looked like a good base for building a new engine. The owner wasn't sure of the type of car, it turned out to be a Rallye version which was the last of the muscle car style charger with additional sway bars and striping and a really cool "power bulge" hood. The hurst pistol pistol grip shifter is a big bonus. The owner thought the engine was a 383, but wasn't sure. I think my son will end up up with a really cool 73 sleeper and I really appreciate your help.
