Correct 1971 Hemi Intake Manifold?

Post by cudacruzer »

I'm building a 71 Hemi Cuda. I bought a hemi 2X4 intake manifold with casting numbers 2780544 and 2780543, with the "S" in a circle and the large pentastar. All of this is correct. The interesting thing is that some of these manifolds have a thin "P" stamped upside down next to the pentastar and others have a thicker "P" stamped right side up. Mine is right side up. Does anybody know why this is? Maybe just the way they came down the line and some guys stamped them one way and others another way? Thanks.

Well, as a new member, I gotta say, you guys aren't very helpful. Is there another website I might try?

Before 1967 they would not have a "P" stamp
1967-1968 = "P" stamped above the Pentastar
1969-1971 = "P" stamped to left of the Pentastar

Looks like the stamp was not very easy to read.
So the "direction" of the stamp is not significant.

This is the best that I have come up with so far.
There's possibly small variations, because there
seems to always be caveats, but this is the gist.

Thanks guys. The "P" is to the left of the pentastar and the numbers match the part numbers for the 71 Hemi Cuda...so I think the manifold I have is correct for my resto project.
