I found a guy on the web who might have more info,
and this is what he had to say about the castings...
The casting number that you referenced is for a DODGE D500 engine. Casting number is 1734049. Dodge also used another casting number for the D500, which was 1730541.

It is believed that the 1734049 was used for the D500-1 optioned engines, and was a modified and rubbed core layup version of the other casting number. This was done to increase the port sizes, and also to modify the water jacketing for the cooling of the engine.

I own a pair of the 1734049 heads, but since I do not have the other casting number 1730541 for comparison, it is difficult to confirm the above statements.

I do own a set of the KD500 heads (casting number 1828129), and I can tell you that these heads are different from the 1734049 heads in port sizing.

The 1734049 heads had 1.88" intake valves, and 1.54" exhaust valves (by measurement). Valve springs are dual (both wound same direction), and appear to be the same as found on the 1956 341 DeSoto Adventurer head. The rocker arms are mechanical adjustment type, and use a ball-stud adjuster (so the pushrod has a cup at the top to match) of 5/16" diameter.

Head weighs about 52# bare. Valve guides are .375" ID, and are cast iron. Again, look to be the same guides as DeSoto.
