Help ID this 270 Hemi or Poly or other?

Post by scottm »

Does anyone think they can help figure this one out? Let me know!

The 1635729 casting on the block translates to 270 Hemi per my database.
D63-1 would me a 270 Poly -- but if you look at the pad, it looks like D63-I.
From the photos (see below) you can see that it's definitely got Hemi heads.

Is it really a Hemi? Could it be a Poly with a Hemi head swap? Other?

Block # shows asa 270 Dodge truck block & the code is for a Poly, so....270 Poly converted to hemi.

Casting 1554132 on both heads. I show this for 241-260-270 Hemi heads.

the ports on those early Dodge hemi heads are very small, 100 cc intake ports. The 1956-57 polysphere Dodge heads actually have bigger ports 125 cc's.

Scott the owner here, I was told that this engine came out of a dodge car carrier purchased new. At that time you had to have a dodge product to haul dodge vehicals. I need to purchase connecting rod as one item of many. I need to know for which type of engine to get them for, Poly or hemi, and then when I show this engine inthe truck, how would I advertise?

Hemi & Ploy block parts, other than the pistons, are the same so any 241, 259, 270 connecting rod will work. It a Hemi now, so that's what you call it.
