Re: 5 old hemi's
Do you all think $3000 is a good price? Three are complete. Two are in pieces. All are stored in a trailer.

Re: 5 old hemi's
348 & 448 are both 331s. 3K would be good if all were complete cores. What's missing?

Re: 5 old hemi's
Time has been my enemy. Only one is out of the trailer. I would still like conformation on the VT348 number. 331 or 270?

The VT346 is a 270 cubic inch Dodge
hemi from a '55 or '56 medium-duty
truck - probably out of a 1 to 2 1/2 ton
chassis. The were also fairly common
in school buses of the time that used
the same size 'medium duty' truck chassis.
By the way, in case you don't already know,
the 270 is part of the "low-deck' 241-270
"Red Ram" Dodge hemi family. It might not
be as "desirable" or have the same "wow"
factor as a 331-354-392 Chrysler, but being
physically a lot smaller and lighter than the
much bigger and heavier Chrysler, makes the
'low-deck' Dodge a better and easier engine
to swap into a light weight rod or a small or
mid-size car. Being a dedicated 'truck' engine
too, it'll have good 'heavy-duty' internals and
most likely, adjustable rockers too, making it
a very desirable candidate for a performance
build. In stock form the '241-270 style' heads
are a bit restrictive, but if you're doing a
performance build, you can fit some better
flowing, 'bigger valve and port' heads from
a 'high-deck' 315 or 325 Dodge 'Super Red
Ram' hemi to the low deck block and make
a compact little screamer that will pull
well beyond it's actual displacement.

Heavy is right. If it's complete, you're lookingHemi8me wrote:Got another out.

at an about 850 lb, large sized lump of iron!
If it's a VT348, it should be a '54 or '55
331 from a 'medium-duty' Dodge truck. Basicly
the same as the 331 Chrysler passenger car
engine, but with heavy-duty interrals, a two-1
bbl or single 2-bbl "truck" intake and "truck"
front cover and water pump. It *probably* also
has the good 'truck, marine & Chrysler
300-style' adjustable rockers.

Re: 5 old hemi's
Here are some more pictures. I think this guy was selling parts too.
There are two engines taken apart. Trying to find the parts for them in this trailer is turning into a lot of work. One is a NE56 354 and one is a VT448 331. Funny part is.....there are two sets of heads. One set is for a 354 truck and the other a 354 car. Where the hell are the other 331 heads? Bad part is.....I can only find three rocker arm rails.
Here are two pictures of what is left in the trailer. A lot of junk, hemi parts, and parts from other engines.
You can see the rock arms toward the front of the trailer.
Found this in there too. What is it? It's made of aluminum. Looks like a engine mount plate.
Here is NE56. the crank and cam go to VT448
Here is VT448
Here is VT348
Here is S25. This one needs a lot of cleaning work.
Here is S23. He told me this one runs. Has a tranny attached to it too.

Re: 5 old hemi's
The "engine mount plate" fits between the engine and transmission. The crankshaft flange
extends out far enough from the rear of the block to use a bolt and nut to fasten the flywheel/flex plate to the crank flange, hence the spacer plate. It also provides a way
to mount the starter.

Re: 5 old hemi's
Were these used on trucks and cars? Will I need on of this with an adapter to a chevy 4 speed or auto?
Sometimes I think I have to many questions.

Re: 5 old hemi's
That depends. If you buy an old Transdapt or Offenhauser adapter from ebay,or wherever, you will prob. need it.And you will prob. be restricted to using the orig. 1950's starter. Why not use an A833 Mopar 4 speed?Tom Waters maks the best one imo,and you can use stock sheet metal, later starters, and not have to fabricate anything.Other adapters that you can buy new almost always require fabricated lower clutch covers.
Re: 5 old hemi's
I like the idea of the 700R4 with overdrive. Although, I did just read that they can only handle 450 lbs of torque. True?

Re: 5 old hemi's
Sorry dhemi. I forgot all about that part u needed.
Is there a market for all these extra bellhousings, clutch parts, and other stuff in these pictures? I am really thinking about scraping them out.
