Hemi intake casting 1730414?

Post by scottm »

The casting appears to be 1730414 on the 4-bbl intake.
But I do not have any information for this intake casting.

The individual wondering does not have access to the Hemi
otherwise we would pull off the serial pad info to check out.

Thanks!

The casting numbers on the manifold indicate this motor is a '56 or '57 DeSoto hemi. Could be a 341 or a 330. I have one just like it with the exact same casting number out in my shop. Mine came on a '56 DeSoto 330.

They're good little motors.

I was recently sent this response by a website visitor:
I have recently discovered the same EXACT intake on a '57 ('58 model year) Desoto Fireflite 341. (Made in 1957, sold in 1958 models, '57 had no 4bbls, but '58 did.)

I believe the person who sent you the information is incorrect when he states there were no 4 bbl's in '57. My '57 341 was a stock single 4 bbl from the factory and in addition the high performance 345 that year was equipped with dual 4 bbls. I also have one of those manifolds. The dual quad manifolds were manufactured in 56 and 57 only.

Not only that, no DeSoto hemis were built for the 1958 model year. All U.S. DeSoto engines in 1958 were B block - 350 for the Firesweep and 360 (361) for the rest. (Canadian DeSoto Firedome models used Chrysler's 354 poly in 1958).
