Changing rearend fluid?

Post by HemiKELLY »

I need to change the reareand fluid. I have the limited slip 9" rear end.

How much fluid do I need buy?

How much friction modifier do I need?

Where is the fill hole????

Thanks

Axel oil change

Post by George »

Summit, PAW & others have oil for posi units. I filled a dry 9" a few yrs ago, seems that it was 4 qts. Fill hole can be on the front or rear of dif. depending on yr. If someone did a mismatch it"s possible to not have one!

The 9.25 rear end holds 2.5 Qts... the full plug is 1/3 up on the cover. Add 4 oz of limited-slip additive, and use 75w-140 syn lube. i will cost you over $50 to di it yourself.

That big circle thing is the fill plug? How does it come off?

Thanks

pop the rubber out with a huge dull flat blade screw driver....works for me!

Remember this when refilling the axle fluids....dont fill till it comes out of the fill hole! 9 of 30: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY
Bulletin Number: 0300104A
Bulletin Date: MAY 2004
THE AXLES ARE LOCATED CONSIDERABLY HIGHER THAT THE ACTUAL FLUID LEVEL. FILLING THE AXLE UNTIL THE FLUID COMES OUT OF THE FILL HOLE WILL OVER FILL THE AXLE, WHICH COULD CAUSE FLUID FOAMING. *MN *TT

I was told that TSB only applied to 2004 models. My fill hole is quite a bit below the axles.

Can anyone confirm this?
