flowmaster

Post by leadfoot »

I have a 2003 Quad Hemi and I want a little more rumble out of it. Will it be worth it to put a 50 series Flowmaster on it and leave just the stock pipe? I saw a 50 series with one "in" and one "out" and was wondering how much of a difference it would make. If not, any suggestions that won't cost me a small fortune? Thanks.

Louder rumble. May want to ask for a sound clip from Flowmaster to ensure that it is not to much for you.

40 series rumbles louder than 50, and it is a litter deeper pitched.

I DISAGREE!! I have TWO flowmaster 40 series (original) on my 1996 Chevy Tahoe.

and my dad has ONE Flowmaster 50 series (Delta Flow, dual in dual out) on his 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD. and his truck is WAAAAAYYYY louder than mine! its also a lot longer and wider (than both of mine added together) and it has a lot more in cab resonance... very loud...

It may be a flow design but if you had change it to the 40s series, it would be even louder.

One muffler is louder than two if I am not mistaken. Also, talking about your dad's truck would only be relevant if it was the same engine. Bigger = louder, and since I don't know the sizes, I can't really say anything to really good accuracy. You want loud performance exhaust, try SLP with the hi-flow cat. That crap is as loud as harleys, doesn't sound like one though, and it is the most hp gain out of any aftermarket cat/muffler swap. Cheaper than flowmaster too.

I also have a 03 Hemi and was interested in a flow master. My local Minike was going to put on a 40 series muffler and said that hehas put on a few and has had no problems. I called Flowmaster directly and they recommend only one muffler for the Hemi, Part number # 9530560 - 50 Series Muffler because of the newer computers and such this muffler cause the least amount of pressure and flow change and give you the nice sound. I found the muffler for $90 shipped to my house and any local muffler shop should install it for around $40 bucks. I don't thinkI will put the 40 series on the Hemi like I have on my Dakota 318 since they don;t recommend it and anyway mine sounds good to begin with when you get on it, I just want some more sound at idel and light acceleration.

F.Y.I Minike $125 installed for the 40 series flowmaster.

that hemi muffler mentioned above is only single in single out, if you want single in dual out change the last two numbers in the part number to 82. its also for the hemi. 3" inlet, dual 2.5" outlets.

Well guys I went on and put the 40 series Flowmaster on today and it sounds GREAT. It is just the sound I was looking for and got it for $110 installed. It has a quiet purr in OD but will turn heads when you hit it.

his is a 6.0L Vortec and my tahoe is a 5.7L Vortec.. wow 11CID difference, don't think it'd make too much difference.. I think his pipe's are a half inch bigger than mine though (2.5 on tahoe, and 3 on HD)

The current OEM size produce enough exhaust flow. It is the restrictive design that needs to be cleaned up. 8)

As with Hemi 5.7. The current mandrel 3-inch piping produce enough exhaust flow. Maybe replacing the OEM muffler may add a slight advantage.... :)

Post a sound of the flowmaster on your truck(to leadfoot). And just so you know, inside the truck is a hell of alot quiter than outside, trust me. My friends here me coming over while inside their houses. A good 10-15 seconds before I get there.

It is actually not as loud as my last truck with a 5.9l engine with no muffler. It is very quiet at idle and OD. I thought it would be louder than it is. I will try to get a soundclip this weekend and post it. All I did was replace the stock muffler and add about 18" of pipe to make up for the length difference and changed nothing else.

I ordered a Magnaflow stainless steel muffler PN 14589 and a stainless steel tip PN 35113 for my truck earlier today. Not as loud as any series of Flowmaster but I don't want it all that loud unless I'm at WOT. I have heard that you may lose a few HP especially in the bottom end of the range with a Flowmaster (even the Hemi specific muffler) but you will gain a few HP (maybe 5 or so) overall with the Magnaflow.

Soon as funds allow I'm planning on getting the whole flowmaster cat-back system they developed specifically for the Hemi. I think they said the other flowmaster mufflers they found were too restrictive for the 5.7L so they came out with what they call the American Thunder cat-back system. Sells for around $400 depending on if you get passenger side exit, rear exit, or dual side exits.

FLOWMASTER

Post by ALDO NOVA »

I AM A NEW HEMI QUAD CAB OWNER AND SO IS MY WIFE (BOTH TRUCKS ARE ABOUT 2 MTHS OLD). I READ ALL THE POSTS HERE...VERY INFORMATIVE. I INSTALLED THE FLOWMASTER 40 ON MY TRUCK AND IT HAS AN IMPRESSIVE RUMBLE TO IT. IT SEEMS MY MPG IMPROVED FROM 12.3 TO ABOUT 14.0. WELL, AS IT GOES I WOULD LIKE TO IMPROVE MPG ON MY WIFES TRUCK BUT SEE HATES THE NOISE!!??? ANY SUGESTIONS?

The Magnaflow is not as loud and also does not resonate as much as a Flowmaster. My gas mileage dropped since the install but I think it's due to the winter blend of gasoline and the much colder weather since I had the muffler installed last October. Other people have noticed an increase in mileage with the Magnaflow at some other sites.

Flowmaster with Resonator

Post by YoureAboutToFindOut »

I've got a Flowmaster (# 9530560, the one recommended for the Hemi) and am going to put it on next week. Should I keep the resonator or give it the boot? The only reason I would consider keeping it is if the interior noise would be reduced with it. Anyone done this? I don't object to the interior noise increasing a little, as the 50 series Flowmaster I had on my 4.7 Dakota sounded just right!

American Thunder

Post by ggt1_02 »

I've got a '03 Reg Cab Hemi, and I installed a American Thunder 50 series, a few months ago. It's a one in duel out, and it sounds great. It's not to loud in the cab, but gives a nice head turning growl when the pedals down.

Flowmaster??? 40 series or 50 series

Post by frankmaranello »

2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Hemi with 20" and 3:92 diff.
Want to change the sound and performance if possible but not sure which muffler to go with. I want it to sound nice but not too loud. In the past, flowmaster was always my choice of mufflers, but I'm not able to decide if I should go with 40 or 50 series. Any suggestions welcomed...

FLOWMASTER

Post by 04hemi »

Hello all...
I have been doing a lot of research about what muffler is going to sound the best and I have been told by like 4 or 5 different people/ businesses and about a month full of website surfing that Magnaflow is the best...But I have heard Magnaflow and I now own a Flowmaster (AS of today) and if you want some (deeper then stock) sound, but not enough to awake the neighbors, but the muffler warranty is very important to you - Go with the Magnaflow then. If you want everyone to know around you that you have a big engine and like to hear it talk to you.... Go with the Flowmaster 40 or 50 series. I have a 40 Series I just put on my truck today and I can't get enough of the sound. I've been told by a lot of these installers that you really can't tell between a 50 or 40 and it's not a big difference. I have a 2004 Ram 1500 with the wonderful Hemi in it!!!! I can wait to race some dumbass with a Ford, Chevy out there to prove who's mountain he is on!!!!
