Oil Pressure?

Post by YoureAboutToFindOut »

I'm used to seeing an oil pressure gauge vary somewhat with engine rpm, but the one on my '04 Ram quickly moves from the far left to straight-up-center when the engine is started (too quickly, I think), and remains this way, without variation, as long as the engine is running and regardless of engine load or rpm. Is this typical?

As I understand it, it's not an analog pressure gauge, it's a digital gauge controlled by the computer. If the oil pressure is within an acceptable range, it just positions it straight up. It only moves if the computer senses the pressure to be out-of-band, other wise it stays there.
