Differences Between the 5.7 HEMIs

Post by scottm »

Why is the Ram 345/375 and Durango 335/370?

Same engine, but the Durango has a more restrictive
exhaust system to keep the interior cabin noise down.

How is the 300/Magnum 340/390 any different?

Several reasons, namely dealing with packaging of the
engine for the certain market. Noise dampening engine
cover, aluminum oil pan, etc. They have a more unique
induction, new intake/exhaust manifolds, and exhaust so
they have a recalibrated computer to compensate.

Why is the Charger 340/390 and Daytona 350/390?

Dodge did some tuning with an intake and exhaust on the
Charger Daytona R/T in order to get the additional 10-hp.

Are the truck and car blocks any different?

The 300/Magnum machining is common with the truck
application, allowing both of the engines to be created
simultaneously on the same production line.

How many changes are necessary for the MDS?

Very few parts are actually changed between the MDS
and non-MDS engines. DCX adds four oil flow valves,
swaps out eight lifters and the cam, a few tweaks with
the computer, and it is converted. The remaining parts
inside the engine remain the same between the two.
