Performance mufflers
2004 Hemi 1500 Quad 4X4 20" and 3.92 diff.
Looking to get more sound out of my truck.
I read alot about 40 series and 50 series Flowmaster mufflers.
Anyone out there have either one on?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Forget the flowmasters! Get a Magnaflow #14589.
This muffler sounds great, with a low rumble while idling
and then a controlled roar when accelerating.
I researched this topic for about 5 months before I bought
the magnaflow-It is a true performance muffler.
I have seen about a 2 MPG difference.

Magnaflow
Thanks for the feedback!
Besides the muffler was anything else modified on the exhaust?
Also was the magnaflow a direct replacement?
If it sounds as good as you say it does I might consider going with the magnaflow.
Any differences in sound between the magnaflow and flowmaster?

I installed the flowmaster one in and two out. It is the 50 American Thunder Series. If I had to do it again, I would put in a 40 Series instead. I would like a little bit more rumble while the truck is sitting still. While driving, the truck has a nice deep rumble to it. Who knows, I might take it off and put a Ravin on. I had that on my Dakota and that beat all in sound.

You need to hear it for yourself. Don't take someones personal opinion, different people like different things. Some people like a raspy sound where others hate it. Search for a website with audio clips of different exhaust set-ups. I know flowmaster has clips on their site. I love my 40 series flowmaster with a turndown, but that doesn't mean you will.

I am going to try out the IMCO MUFFLERS . They are built identical to the Flowmaster, but carry a lifetime warranty unlike the Flow! Monday I will know if it was $200 well spent. That is going to be 1 IMCO PERFORMANCE single in single out exiting on the passengers side through a 4" slash cut tip.....should be nasty!!!

Mufflers
Thanks for the info guys...
I'm still not too sure on which muffler to go with.
I'm considering the magnaflow because of the stainless steel construction.

Re: Mufflers
Well everyone I talked to helped me change my mind. The IMCO guy wanted to take all sorts of shortcuts, so I ordered the Magnaflow and the Magnaflow SS tips. It will all be here Wed. and I will be off to the muffler shop to wake up the sound of my HEMI!!frankmaranello wrote:Thanks for the info guys...

I just got my Ram back from the shop. I installed the Flowmaster "American Thunder" 50 series, 1-in-2-out. I put the 4" DC chrome exhasut tips on it. I had them split 'em so that they come out either side, right behind the rear tires. I have the ground effects kit so my driver's side piece is at the body shop getting re-worked...
All I can say is my HEMI finally lives up to its namebrand, "Thunderroad"
I have two words to descirbe it, IN-SANE . My wife says it sounds like our big-block camaro! To me, that is a compliment! THis is the way a HEMI should sound! Rock-on!

Stay with the Magnaflow! It sounds and performs very well.
The flowmasters are nice, but tend to have an obnoxious sound.
In my opinion, the magnaflow has the optimum sound/performance
for my 03' Ram. And that is after hearing and comparing many
different exhaust's on different trucks.
Flowmaster exhaust uses baffles and chambers, where the magna-
flow is a straight thru muffler.
Take it from there.

Guys, It's been one week with my 50 series American Thunder Flowmaster (1-in, 2-out) w/ 4" tail pipes and it sounds and performs great! The question I have is that the bottom half of the tailpipes have a heavy black residue on them .. Anyone got a good answer??

Black residue
Try using WD-40.
I had the same problem on mine and it helps!
I use it all over the tailpipe to take away tar and road grime.
I polish it after with chrome polish from turtle wax.

Frank, thanks for the words... It worked like a champ! I still have the question? Why is there so much black residue on the pipes?! Is the engine running too rich with the new exhaust?

Exhaust
I still have the original exhaust from Dodge and I have the same problem so I don't think it has to do with your exhaust.

Re: Performance mufflers
Frank, those 40 series delta are very loud. Talk to ALLENCF first before purchasing them, he had them on his last RAM truck (dual output).frankmaranello wrote:2004 Hemi 1500 Quad 4X4 20" and 3.92 diff.

I REALLY wish someone would try a Spintech on the Hemi. Or better yet order some 3.5" pipe from Spintech and make a 3.5" single exhaust off your headers Y pipe and dump it before the rear axle. Use a Spintech Race muffler.
I had this exact exhaust and people will beg to know what it is. MEAN!MEAN! MEAN!
Only would cost about $150 or so.

Re: flowmasters
I've got an '04 Hemi 1500 QC and would like to change the exhaust tone. I had a Mustang and have been thru the flowmaster/X-Pipe setup. Here's what I want and don't want...jaspel wrote:Forget the flowmasters! Get a Magnaflow #14589.

Want:
Nice sound at idle
Nice sound during accelerate
No 2000 rpm drone inside the cab
A little better gas milage (already have a K&N Series 77 Intake)
Easy install (for me or muffler shop)
Keep the Cats
Don't Want:
To replace the whole exhust
complicated install
Check Eng Light
High $$
So I've been thinking that the Magnaflow muffler should do the trick... Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Magnaflows
OK, after reading all your posts, I think I will go with the Magna. What does it take to install it? Looking under my truck, there is the large muffler next to the drive shaft, and a smaller one over the axle. Is it easy to put the muffler and a turndown right behind it (the one over the axle is not the cat by some chance is it?)
Thanks,
greg
