So you want to purchase a crate Hemi engine?

Problems with crates

Problems with crate’s is certainly not limited to Chryslers. My friends in the Chevy world are reporting the same thing with Chevy crates. The word is that "crate motors" (although are to spec) are not built with premium parts. I'm willing to bet any crate hemi does not come with a billet crank or even pistons from a reparable company like TRW.
EVERY engine builder I have talked with recommends buying a bare block and heads and build it yourself with race quality components. The cost is about the same but the engines strength is like night and day. There are many good designs that can be followed so all you really are doing is assembling.
I have been exploring crate engines for my Cuda. I have also heard the horror stories.
Just my opinion!
crate engine advice

part of the allure of the crate engine to me is to get the electronics, wiring harness, computer, etc to install in a non original type car. Do you recommend buying these elsewhere and building an engine myself. I've done a million engine swaps and built quite a few engines, but it is always the wiring that stops me. When I hear about guys buying wrecked dodge rams and swapping in the wiring harnesses, I am always a bit jealous because I don't even know where to start with something like that.

I would recomend Indy Cylinder Head, they make their own blocks and heads. I bought my Hemi from them and the received it in about TWO weeks. Very happy with their service. I would not recomend RAY BARTON
poor quality (unless your a big bucks super stock racer) and you will wait for ever for a engine, like maybe a year or more. Get a custom built engine you will be way more HAPPY than the junk MOPAR crate engines with the exception of the 5.7 they seem to be ok. Just a truck hemi made to work in most any car or truck. Shop around, alot of money could be wasted on a problem engine.
