Flywheel Help

Post by Don Nicklason »

From your question I'm guessing you are not a "car" mechanic.
Working from the floor, you need to get the vehicle up on stands for some clearance, & safety so it can't fall on you.
Assuming that you know what to do to get the transmission out, your bell housing is probably open on the bottom half, you can remove the throw out bearing, pressure plate bolts, pressure plate & clutch disc. If your bell housing is not open on the bottom, you can remove it by having a cusion support on the rear of the engine oil pan on a floor jack & lowering it enough to remove the bell housing bolts & pulling the bell housing. (note) after you have the transmission off. If your'e a handy wood guy, make a bridge block to go up against the oil pan bolts, not toutching the pan.
It's on dowel pins & sometimes real tight fitting. By gently tapping on each side it may start moving back. Make sure you pry even on both sides so as not to bind on the dowels.
It's been so long, don't remember if your flywheel bolts have lock tabs that need to be bent out to get a socket on the heads. If you have an impact wrench your job is easy. One of the bolts in the circle is offset so the flywheel bolt holes will only align in one position in most all cases.
Any more questions ? Just ask. Regards--- Don
