'09 Challenger Drag Pak: Ordering Info !

Post by speedicusmaximus »

For those of you interested in running one of the '09 race-only Dodge Challengers, there's a little bit of a catch: Follow the link through to Allpar.com's website, and their '08/'09 Challenger webpage, and once there, scroll down the page a little till you come to the Drag Pak Ordering Information. You'll see.

Since it's been awhile since anybody posted here, I figured I'd let everyone know what I found out at SEMA last week.
Per NHRA & MOPAR the cars have yet to be approved by NHRA as the ones at Brainard were considered prototypes. It'll take about 30 days to NHRA to approve them, as they aren't certain what the "package" car will consist of. NHRA hasn't factored the engines yet so no one knows what class they'll run in or if they'll even be accepted for Stock or S/S Elim. The cars will be built at the Roush facility in Mich. and should be availible 30 days after approval. For those that haven't seen the application to buy one it SEEMS that unless you're a professional racer with a long track record (literally!) your chances of getting one are 2 --- slim & none.
The cars themselves require quite a bit of completion as they have no trans or live axle, only partial wiring and no fuel delivery or exhaust system. Even if you do most of the work yourself & don't go through the engine prior to racing, you'll be into the car for about 20k over the initial price. What this translates into is 50-100k STOCKER  that may or may not be competitive in its class depending on if NHRA re-factors the car once it starts competing. Now if you want to run it as a SM or GT car you're up against smaller, more aerodynamic cars & have to make even more HP to be competitve AND this is before you even address the inherent weaknesses in the new Hemi. Of course you could always put in a 2nd gen Hemi for SM & GT clas racing but once again you're out of the "affordable" range and back into the high-dollar class. Result?
Unless you're well funded, independently wealthy or factory connected these cars are going to be the playthings of the select few and Mopar still hasn't helped their long-time, faithful customers.
