2009 Dodge Hurst/HEMI Challenger to Debut
at SEMA

by Automobile Staff

We’re looking forward to several aftermarket takes
on the Dodge Challenger at this year’s SEMA show. The
first one out of the gate fittingly comes from one of
the pioneers in muscle car performance.

The 2009 Dodge Hurst/HEMI Challenger starts out with
an SRT8 and adds a supercharger that boosts power to
more than 500 hp. Other performance modifications
include a MagnaFlow exhaust, Eibach springs, and of
course, a Hurst pistol-grip shifter. Hurst five-spoke alloy
wheels, gold striping, and a special interior with Hurst
badges are also in the mix.

If you can’t get in to the SEMA show this November, fear
not. The Hurst/HEMI Challenger is actually entering
production in early 2009 and will be on participating
showroom floors soon thereafter. The car will come in at
least three trim levels, said Hurst’s performance vehicles
program director Ron Flint. Hurst has not yet released
details on production numbers or pricing, but Flint said to
expect premiums of $10,000 to $20,000 over base SRT8s.
Of course, some dealers are adding this much to the
Challenger’s sticker to start with, so you might prepare to
pay a bit more than that.

Hurst to bring 500-hp Hurst/Hemi
Challenger to SEMA

By Scott_Evans

Legendary shifter-maker Hurst has announced it's teamed
up with Dodge to create a special-edition Hurst/Hemi
Challenger for 2009. More than a trim package, Hurst
promises the Hurst/Hemi Challenger will lay down at least
500 supercharged horsepower.

"The new Hurst/Hemi Challenger is more than just another
musclecar," says Nate Shelton, chairman of Hurst. "It
epitomizes the performance industry's tradition of taking
the best Detroit has to offer and adding 21st-century
performance parts to make your ride faster and cooler than
the other guy's. Hurst has a long history of doing just that
with guys like Don Garlits, Warren Johnson, Dick Landy,
and even celebrity racers Steve McQueen and Jim Garner.
The new Hurst/Hemi Challenger is the first of many Hurst
Performance Vehicles to come. We are ready to make some
more history."

Details are thin right now, but you'll definitely get Hurst
polished five-spoke wheels and a classic Hurst "pistol grip"
shifter. Production will begin in 2009 after the car has been
officially unveiled at the SEMA show in Las Vegas in November.
No price has been announced yet, but expect a significant
premium over the Challenger's sticker price.

2008 SEMA Show Preview: Hurst/Hemi
Challenger Set for Debut

Date posted: 08-27-2008

CHATSWORTH, California — Hurst gets its turn in the
barrel with the new Dodge Challenger, readying a 2009
Hurst/Hemi Challenger for a splashy debut at the 2008
SEMA Show.

The tuner says it takes a Dodge Challenger SRT8 and
beefs it up to 500-plus horses. Hurst said the Hurst/Hemi
Challenger will be available in four trim levels through
participating Dodge dealers. Details include five-spoke
Hurst alloy wheels and a classic pistol-grip Hurst shifter.

Pricing has not yet been announced for the four trim levels.
But Hurst spokesman Ron Flint said the special model will a
dd a minimum $10,000 premium to the Challenger.

"We are targeting a range of $10,000-$20,000 MSRP above
the cost of the vehicles for Stages 1 through 3," he said in
an e-mail to Inside Line. "Stage 4 will come later and is a
built-to-order model that can range much higher depending
on special options like special paint colors."

What this means to you: This one has "future classic
muscle car" written all over it. — Anita Lienert,
