Advice help for 472 hemi

Post by jcusack »

I have a 2004 hemi 472. The cam was changed to a Comp Cam .534 intake and .517 exhaust. The duration at 0.50 is 244 intake and exhaust and lobe lift is .3400 for both. I've installed a 1050 Dominator carb. My problem is it runs rough at 2200-2600 rpm and if I get on it when the gas is released it backfires. The plugs have been changed awhile back, but they are the same specs. as the originals. I've been told it is the timing chain and that I need a hotter plug. I forgot to mention there is an MSD box.

Backfiring is usually a timing problem. Seem to recall the early crate Hemis had QC problems & there were recomendations that they be disassembled & checked to see if they were right.
