A BETTER IDEA FOR THE FORD CAMMER
I truly believe if Ford had used this design for the engine it would be the primary engine in Funny Car, Top Fuel, TAFC & TAD and perhaps Pro-stock.
It would still be a chain drive, but use an arrangement in the shape of a Y. There would be perhaps a No. 41 double roller chain from the crank up about 10" to an idler at the fork of the Y. This set of sprockets would cause the 1/2 speed reduction.
From the idler up to each camshaft would be individual No. 41 single roller chains. All of this would be enclosed and lubed with engine oil.
I think it could be designed with the bottom chain longer than needed and with a double ended chain tensioner so that cam timing could be advanced or retarded in minutes to compensate for different weather and track conditions.
This setup would not have cost but a few dollars more, if any.

He was on a record run at 190 miles an hour when the chain on his camshaft broke,
He was found in the wreck with the chain around his neck and choked to death by the smoke.
