The Southeast Moparty Picnic Rolls into Tennessee!

With the popularity of casual cruise in events, and early morning Cars & Coffee style events taking over the nation, we’re always refreshed to see a good old-fashioned car show that is aimed at a particular make or model. While some might say that seeing a few hundred of a certain type of car would become repetitive, we’d like to prove them wrong with a glimpse of the Southeast Moparty Picnic. Sure, we saw a few cars with similar paint colors and option packages, but for the most part, it was a mixed bag of awesome, and offered plenty of variety.

This is the second annual Southeast Moparty Picnic, and Ken Meredith and his crew of Mopar buddies are still running it. Last year’s inaugural event immediately outgrew the facility, so the event moved to Camp Jordan, a large, open venue in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Camp Jordan is a natural fit for a car show, as it has plenty of parking area for both show cars and spectator cars, as well as an excellent vendor building, and even room for a swap meet and truck and trailer parking.

The desire for this event to grow is evident with the added features of this year’s Southeast Moparty Picnic. For 2017, a drag racing element was added to the event, and it was to be held at Brainerd Motorsports Park, an eighth-mile drag strip less than one mile away from Camp Jordan. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t cooperate, so the Friday night Super Stock Shootout and fun runs didn’t pan out. The Southeast Moparty Picnic also featured a group drive around Chattanooga, which included a tour and lunch at Coker Tire Company. A little bit of rain didn’t scare many folks away from a free lunch, so it was an excellent turnout considering the weather. The sun finally popped out on Saturday, as hundreds of Mopars rolled into town for the main event.

We spotted all manner of Mopar greatness in the show area, from restored drag cars, such as the epic Tennessee Thunder Dodge Demon, to high end modified cars, like a pro touring style Hemi ‘Cuda convertible. As you can imagine, the show field also had its share of high-end restored cars, with great attention to detail and originality. We were blown away with the number of Hemi-equipped vehicles on the grounds, and enjoyed the symphony when it was time to depart from the event late in the afternoon. With awesome door prizes, food, and special appearances by Mopar racing legends, the 2017 Southeast Moparty Picnic was a huge success, and we’re already planning on the 2018 event on Mother’s Day weekend.

Looks like a really good number of HEMIs. People in the area should check it out next year!
