What Color Should I Paint "Lil" Red 270 Ram

Post by Don Nicklason »

First- I had the vlv covers powder coated Almost Chrome color. I painted the embossed lettering Red. So that stays. Have Offy 3 duece intake & Strombergs with Chrome Scoops. Aluminum timing cover & fin aluminum valley cover. Going in 30 Model A Roadster with no hood or fenders.
Suggestion so far have been Black, Red, Orange, & Blue.
Plan on Powder Coated Black Frame, but that could change. Don't know what color the body is going to be yet.
Open to any & all sugguestions.

The factory colors for these engines were as follows:
Block, water pump, valve covers, intake, oil pan, bell housing - Aluminum
Heads - Hemi Red (closest to that today is the early 60's small block Red)
Distributor, fan, pulleys, starter, gererator, oil filter housing, air filter, PCV
tubes - Gloss Black

I have an original sales flyer somewhere which shows the correct colors for these engines. I have rebuilt one and am starting on another later this year. Hope this helps.

where it's going into a rod the OEM colors are not overly relevant. Based on the name red would be a choice. The NASCAR guys have determined that black sheds the most internal heat, making it a good choice.Or just wait 'till you decide on the body color!
