Dodge Demon Takes On Hayabusa Race Bike In Quarter-Mile Action
YouTube Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OrcM8h-0yIWatch a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon take on a Suzuki Hayabusa in drag race action.
We’ve seen this matchup once before between the Hayabusa and a Jeep Trackhawk. We don’t think this is the same Hayabusa as from earlier this year for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that the Suzuki lost to the big Jeep SUV.
Just by looking at the bike, you can tell it’s been heavily modified. What began as a first-gen Suzuki Hayabusa GSX-1300R is now something a little different--there are no side mirrors, no mufflers on the exhausts, and the video description mentions that the 1.3-L 4-stroke engine has been given a big turbocharger. That pushes the Hayabusa’s power well above the 173 horses that it started with.
But would it be enough to take down a Demon?
We all know the Demon is the undisputed king of muscle cars. Its supercharged 6.2-L HEMI puts out 840 hp and is capable of launching from zero to sixty in just 2.3 seconds. Quarter-mile times can get as low as 9.65 seconds, and high 9s are common to see from a properly equipped Demon on a prepared drag strip.
And this Demon is most definitely prepared, as you can tell from the skinny front tires and massive drag radials in the back. Both muscle car and Japanese racing bike perform their own burnouts and inch towards the line with the Demon’s massive V8 completely drowning out the Hayabusa’s smaller motor.
That is, at least until the race starts. Then both vehicles roar and rocket off the line. The Demon performs a huge wheelie that actually causes the car to bounce for half the quarter-mile distance, while the Hayabusa just shoots off like lightning.
Both bike and muscle car had great runs, but the Hayabusa proved to be more than a match for the Demon. The Demon finished in 9.96 seconds at 147 mph, while the Hayabusa finished in an astounding 8.85 seconds at 165 mph.
Responding to the outcry from Demon fans, Wheels responded to say, “Demon straggles [sic] with traction ,he's capable of 9.2 sec ,we will do a rematch soon !!!"
To which the top reply came from an astute observer: "The bike ran an 8.8 so he can run all the 9.2s he wants."
Yeah, it definitely looks like the Demon could have had a better launch.
The Hayabusa would still win, but amazing how close the race would be!
