Converting 331 to electronic ignition....need help

Post by 41hemi »

I'm working on a 1954 331 that we put in an electronic ign. dist. from Hot Heads. Wired it up like instructions say and we get no fire. Got 12V to ballast resistor and then to the dist. Rotor is turning with engine. One small hint; after you shut key off, you get a spark out of the coil about 3 seconds later. I have tried jumping the ballast resistor with no luck. Any suggestions??

Have you tried asking Bob at Hot Heads? I have a dim memory of something simular. i had a car that only seemed to get ignition as the attempt to start was ending. During the brief moment that power was no longer going to the starter, but before key was all the way off, there was ignition briefly. Seems the effort to turn the engine over was using the available juice. Don't remember if it was bad starter, battery or what.

sounds like a bad controll unit or ground problem, the coil collapes when the power stops one time, it should charge and fire 4 times per revolution . check for good ground at dist it self good luck
