392 &331 compatability

Post by jim d »

bought a couple of hemis. the 392 is a short block, no heads & the 331 is a complete engine. i believe the 331 heads cast. #1556157 will bolt up to the 392 but will they give me the same preformance ? and what other problems am i going to incounter ? would i be better off selling off the 331 & finding some 392 heads ? appreciate any info. are there any books available on these engines ?

The heads are for a 55 331. Many consider 55 heads on a 392 to be the best flowing setup. you have to use spacers on the intake. If the 331 is complete I would build it & look for 354,other 55 331, or 392 heads for the 392. I've got a 55 331 in my 48 Plym, great engine! a good book is Tex Smiths Hemi Book from Hot Rod Library 800-513-8133. A few mistakes, but over all a good reference on the Chr.
