1957 chrysler poly question

Post by 57belvedere »

there is a 1957 chrysler in the salvage yard that i bought my 57 belvy from. it has a poly in it for sure. now, would this be a 354 poly? i am going to pick it up if i can confirm this. i want to do a hemi conversion on it. i can pick it up for next to nothing, and yes i am aware of the cost of early hemi stuff, but thats not my main concern. can i use any 331, 354, marine, industrial head for this conversion? this has been touched on by other members, but just want to know the heads that cannot be used to avoid wasting my cash! anyone know? thanks, mike in k.c.

Code on flat in front of valley cover LE57.for the 354. You need 354,or '55 331 head assemblies,354 pistons & pushrods. If code not readable 1619829 or 29 -2 between heads& valley cover pass. side near rear. Auto heads are preferred. The others can have salt filled, fat stemmed ex. valves that interfere w/ flow. Some have tall, narrow passage in head that goes across under the carb, incompatible w/ auto intakes, they have square crossovers.
