392 trans setup

putting together a stude truck whith a 392 engine i want to use a push button control.i assume i'll have to use a small block trans . what cars & YEARS USED THIS SET UP? is there an over drive verison ? what part numbers do i ask for ?

You probably want to use an aluminum small block 727 from '62 to '65. '62 has the emergency brake on the back of the trans and a ball & trunion joint. '63 to '64 has no e-brake, but still has the ball & trunion. '65 has no e-brake and uses a modern u-joint. Truck transmissions from the same era have an e-brake and regular u-joints. They also have long cables to connect things and convenient, independent push-button assemblies good for conversions. No overdrive available, even from gear-vendors, except for independant units.

Push-button torqueflites were made from 57 to 61 and are cast iron and harder to get parts for. There are also 2 speed powerflites from 57 and earlier.
