tearing down my 331 motor. PIX
I just pulled this donor motor for my 56 plymouth project car.
i figure i'll put up some pix
here it is just out of the car - it's a 55 chrysler 331
here are some teardown shots...

hi djvcuda nice pics i could look at old hemis all day long . i just bought an old 54 new yorker complete with a 331 4v its not the extended block im gonna pull it and put it in my 65 cornet after i rebuild it ben sitting for years in the old new yorker gonna need some tlc great post thanks happy holidays.

here is what is under the plug wire cover.
intake off...
valley cover removed, the motor seems nice and clean!
bottom end...
valve cover and rocker gear removed...
combustion chamber.
the rest of the cylinder head...note steel shim head gasket.
one head off the block... cylinders are nice and clean, no scratches!

I didnt get alot done tonight but made it out there....
I pulled the pulley to find a 2 piece balancer... for a second I thought I had a mess on my hands, apparently not the balancer and the hub that fits over the crank are bolted on WITH the pulley... neat-o!
Pulled a rod bearing - 60,000 miles till 1975, then the motor SAT...till I got my hands on it..
heres the crank...
started to pull the main bearing.. LOOK a lockwasher under a main bolt - never saw that before..
fully grooved main bearings...
the crank again...
the rings have TOP written on them, so thoughtfull in the 50's huh?
the bottom end...
