Ignition Timing recommendation

Post by steve392 »

I’m all done building my 392 for my street rod, and I now have it up and running on a test stand. Here’s a little background before I ask some advice:
392 bored .030 over
8:1 Ross forged pistons
Comp Cams extreme energy hydraulic cam. .490â€

Can you limit the amount the Vertex will put in? I'd start with around 12-15 and not go over 35. They're all a little different in what they like, but on a blown motor I'd not go over 35 total.

The only way that I could limit the amount in the distributor would be to have it re-curved. I agree that there is too much advance built in, and the general opinion is between 32-35 degrees total. I'm getting opinions ranging from 8 to 18 degrees initial. Right now, I have it at 12 degrees, but will try bumping that up to 15 to see how that works.
